Question about Akai PT5492S 54" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

PT5598hdi This morning there was a click while watching tv and I suddenly had ghosting, bow tie effect and 2 stripes of color on each side. Looking at the site I figued it was the convergence ICs. Took out the board and still had the same effect. I had 2 new ICs replaced and brought the board home. Put the board in and only had sound. The screen is blank. Turned the tv off and unplugged it. Plugged it back in and now I have just blinking of the red light between 7-10 times and then nothing. Last year I also had the board and power supply replaced. I just spent the last bit of money I have! Great huh. Just my luck. Is there anything I could try now. Thank you kindly for your time all of the sudden I have the same type of problem I think. looks like everything is in 3D. the bowtie effect is going on. I really can't afford to have this fixed. What should I do. Is it just some type of setting or should I just trash the damn thing?

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,PioneerPT5598hdi - 2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

The TCON Board or the LCD panel is faulty. Can confirm by replacing the TCON board.

What to do when your Toshiba 55TL515U powers on, works fine for a few hours, then suddenly turns off, and then continues to click as if it is turning on and off again?

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

It just does this with the fire stick, regular TV is ok? If that is the case the fire stick is most likely defective.

LG 26LH2000 television. Last 2 days when I turned my TV on there was only sound, and black screen.

back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

The color on my TV is all pink. I have tried a hard reset but it didn't help.

Your TV has lost a GREEN color from a basic color palette (Red-Green-Blue). It is often caused by:
- damaged LCD cable (which connects the display with a signal board inside the TV),
- damaged video signal cable (ex. SCART, HDMI, VGA),
- damaged video processor (on the signal board).
I can't give you a more accurate answer, because I don't know what is your TV mark and model and, in what situations you have the problem.
