Question about Leviton D4DMX Programmable Channel Dimmer Pack System

Open Question

This problem is for someone that is familiar with Leviton electronic houshold light switches. I have a switch (3 way) in our hall that goes off and on by itself. The number is a 6607. Both switches are capable of dimming as you probably already know. I suspect outside interference as there are no other devices in our house like this. About 2 months ago we bought new switches and had an electrician install them and they worked fine until now and the same problem came back. These are much to expensive to just kiss off as a bad product and I am hoping you can suggest a filter or other cure. One thought is to change the circuit it is now on to the other phase in the house to try to isolate the interference if that is what is causing my problem. I need to ask a "PRO". Thanks, Ed Roberts

SOURCE: leviton slide dimmer switch w/locator light light comes on but doesnt dim

What sort of light is it , dimmer switches normally only work on Incandescent type lights not flourescent type.

Otherwise it sounds as if the dimmer function is faulty.

SOURCE: Installing a Leviton 5225 switch with outlet.

A switch is wired using the hot wires only, the black wire. It is simply a break in the line so that when the switch is off no power flows and when the switch is on the power does flow.

You are correct that the middle outlet would have two black wires and two white wires.

If you want to tap into that middle outlet and run power up the wall I suggest you look into some wiremold products. Go to their website, or any home depot and check it out. Get back if you think I can help you further. I am an electrician.

SOURCE: 3-way dimmer dead

It could be a loose connection, and it could be a loose connection on the OTHER 3-way switch across the room. Also, verify that the dimmer is rated for the fixture(s): add together the wattage of each individual light bulb that the dimmer controls and make sure that the dimmer has a higher wattage rating. If it isn't, you might have burned up your dimmer (and risked an electrical fire). Hope this helps!

SOURCE: new Leviton 'lighted, decorative' switch flickers when off

Personally, I've had no practical problem using the standard lighted switches with CFL bulbs but I am willing to put up with the flicker as the switches are in an unimportant area. The reason why they flicker is each CFL bulb has an electronic circuit in the ceramic base so you don't have to install a balast circuit in every lamp and fixture in your home. This is also why they cost more. You are basically throwing away a complete flouresent light fixture when you change these bulbs. Anyway, the reason the switches flicker is that there is a capasitor in the circuit that keeps charging and discharging through the little neon bulb in the switch. I had a CFL bug light on my back porch and when I was outside looking at the stars at night, I kept seeing something out of the corner of my eye. I stared at the bug light for a while and it was flashing every few minutes as the high voltage circuit in the bulb would charge to it's ignition threshold then fire the bulb and start the cycle all over again.
Good luck.

SOURCE: I bought a Leviton 1201-PLC 15 Amp, 120 Volt,

Your screw terminals are 2-brass and 1-dark.
Dark screw is considered 'common'
http://waterheatertimer.org/ST01C-program.html#3-way

Leviton shows a 3-way 1203-2, but not 1201
Wiring diagram indicates that pilot light is ON whenever switch has power.
http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?item=2681§ion=10046&minisite=10026

Check your instruction sheet that pilot light is supposed to turn on-off with Load.
I don't think it is, without additional terminal on switch for neutral wire.
And then it would only work on switch located closest to light.

You can wire this type of thing separately.
Buy ordinary pilot light or indicator light from WW Grainger.
Look at diagram on following image:

House has 2 blue wires and one black.. this switch is one of 2 that controls the hall light. my switch i am installing has 1 black 2 red and the green ground. which red goes with which blue wire..

At this point either. Once you hook up the switch test the switches on both sides. Make sure each one turns on and off if that makes sense. If the blue wires are on wrong one switch will only work if the other one is on. If that happens reverse the blue wires and that should fix it.

I have the unit wired and it does not wotk.I have black to black, red to red green to ground and white to white, any thoughts? Thank you

Electrician test wiring before connecting anything.
First of all, you don't mention what type of switch was replaced.

1) Leviton 6230 countdown timer is made to replace single-pole light switch only.
Single pole is where 1 switch controls the Load (light fan motor)

Your wiring sounds like 3-way switch.
3-way is where 2 switches control same Load.
For example a hallway usually has 3-way switches.

To confirm. If old switch has 1 dark screw, 2 brass screws, and 1 green screw, then that is 3-way switch. Use Leviton LTB15, LTB30, LTB60, LTB02, LTB12 countdown timer for 3-way.
Smarthome sells product and shows .pdf manual
http://www.smarthome.com/4255/Leviton-LTB60-1LZ-4-Button-10-20-30-60-Minute-Countdown-Timer-Switch/p.aspx

2) If old switch has 2 brass screws and 1 green screw then that is single-pole switch.

3) If you are replacing single-pole switch, here are testing & wiring instructions for Leviton timer.
Remove device and separate wires for testing.
Use ordinary two wire tester.
Tape tester leads to wood sticks so hands are away from power.
Do not untwist wires that were twisted together before you started.
Turn on power.
Test each wire to bare ground wire.
Tester lights up on Hot wire. This wire will connect to timer black wire.
Now you know Hot wire.
Test Hot wire to each of the other wires, excluding bare ground wire.
Tester lights up on neutral. Timer white wire connects to Neutral wire.
If box does not contain Neutral wire, then timer white wire connects to bare ground.

Timer green wire connects to bare ground wire.
Timer red wire connects to wire going to Load.

My rotary dimmer doesn't switch 3-ways. I have to push the dimmer button to "on", then I can use the other switch to turn on/off.

You posted under Leviton rotary dimmer.
Lutron and Leviton have many 3-way dimmer styles, and both make 3-way rotary dimmers.

I remember years ago replacing 3-way switches with dimmers and having same experience as you. One dimmer has to be ON for the other dimmer to dim.

Later I learned when you replace both 3-way switches with dimmers, you buy a control-and-companion dimmer set. One dimmer is main, and it lets you dim from both locations. The two dimmers communicate with each other electronically. Buy these dimmers at lighting store that specializes in fixtures and dimmers. Ask for most experienced salesperson.

I checked to see if rotary dimmers are made in the companion set. And neither Leviton or Lutron show 3-way companion set rotary dimmers.

1) Leviton spec sheet on rotary 3-way dimmers does not show companion dimmer. This indicates that Leviton rotary dimmers don't have capability of communicating with each other.

2) Lutron has image of 3-way rotary dimmers.
Image shows single rotary dimmer in 3-way & 4-way circuit.
This tells me that Lutron does not have companion dimmer for 3-way rotary dimmer.

The Leviton page for Leviton 5613 does not have a troubleshoot.
Manual shows simple wiring diagram.
3-way switches will not operate lights if switches are wired incorrectly.
Check your ground wire is connected.
Leviton 5613 series is illuminated.
Check that both switches have 5613 number.
Swap switches and see if problem is inside switch.

The Leviton PR180 is a motion detector, or occupancy detector.
It senses infrared heat from a person's body.

I am looking at the manual from Leviton.

Maybe this will help:
There is a small adjustment screw under the wallplate where you can adjust light sensitivity.
Use fingernail or small screwdriver.
Turn control towards the "-" sign and lights will turn on in 'less lighting conditions'

I will be here for a few more hours.

While there are many ways to wire 3-way switches, the most common way is to bring a 2-wire/with ground HOT and neutral cable (from circuit breaker or source) into one switch box and a 2-wire/with ground LOAD cable (to light) into the other switch box. Then a 3-wire/with ground cable is ran between both switch boxes.

The PR 180 _must_ be installed at the switch box the has the cable that goes to the LOAD. I suspect that you have the PR 180 installed in the switch box that contains the HOT feed.

Unfortunately, the solution is to install the PR 180 at the downstairs location and have the normal 3-way switch at the top.

Another solution would be to install a Leviton 1PP15-1L at the switch box that has the HOT feed and a Leviton 1PP0R-1L at the switch box the has the LOAD cable. This, of course will result in a sensor at each location.

I am trying to replace a two wire light switch(both white) with a leviton photoelectric 3 wire motion activated light control(red, black and green). I am trying to determine which wire goes to which?

one of the white wires has power on it constantly....that wire connects to the black wire of the leviton.......the other white wire which has no power to it is going to whatever needs power so that wire connects to the red wire of the leviton....the green wire connects to the metal box where your mounting the leviton.

You cannot, at least not using the dimmer you have in your hand. The switch with all the wires is a four-way switch, which is used to make a "suicided" 3-way switch. The power comes in AND goes out to the light from that switch. The other switch is a 3-way. Neither one has the "ON" or "OFF" marks on them, do they? You can buy a 3-way dimmer, but i do not know if rotary-style 3-way switches exist. You will have to install the dimmer at the other switch because i am quite certain no 4-way dimmers are available.

2 way light switches in the hall

there are too many ways to wire a 2 way switch circuit (3 way switch) to mess with, the two most common ways, will trip out the circuit if wired to each other, (one kind at each end, hope that makes sense), the most common mistake, will put 110v to the metal plate of the switch and switch box, not good
a sparky will take 5 minutes to determine which wiring pattern is used, and install the switch
