Question about Computers & Internet

Computer will not get past the BIOS screen

The gateway splash screen shows on the computer, but it will not get past that. I tried pressing F1 quickly to get to the BIOS menu, and that didn't work. Next, I pressed F10 (that's the boot menu), and it wouldn't go to that either. It won't boot from my XP disc either. Gateway will not help because our warranty is expired, but they did say to try some troubleshooting with some jumper leads (didn't help).
If anybody will help, I will be greatly appreciative.
Gateway 510S.

It sounds like a problem regarding the POST process (power on self test) which is the first thing your computer does when booting up when testing the components that make up your system to make sure it has what it needs to start booting. which in your case could mean you may have a hardware problem. do you know what jumper on the motherboard you were trying with?

Try to reset your cmos by removing the cmos battery, waiting a few minutes, reinstall the battery and try to restart?

if possible post what system you have to get more details on how to reset your motherboard:
look for your system here:

My gateway is stuck in configure 3 of 3 at start up

Turn on your computer. If your computer is already on, then reboot it. You need to see the initial display screen to get into the BIOS. Press the F1 key immediately in one second intervals when you see the initial screen displaying the BIOS provider information. The majority of Gateway computers use the F1 key. If, for some reason this does not work, then use the F2. All of Gateway's desktops use the F1 or F2 keys. this will vary depending on your computer and operating system Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart. Hope this helps.

My gateway wont go past da gateway logo

@djsheedo19

If you're computer freezes up on the Gateway POST (Power ON Self Test) screen, try the following:

1. Disconnect any external devices on the computer (i.e. USB flashdrives, mouse, external HDD, etc) and reboot.
2. If same issue, try to take out the battery and turn the computer ON with the AC adapter plugged-in.
3. If same issue, try to press F2 or F1 and check if it goes to the BIOS screen. If it does, try to check if the HDD is getting detected and set the default settings by pressing F9 and F10 to save and exit (your BIOS might look different from screenshot below)

If the above methods gives you the same issue, you're HDD or motherboard might be failing and you need to call Gateway at 1-800-846-2000 to have the unit serviced.

Bios password on toshiba

Some Toshiba laptops come with a system BIOS password, making anyone without the password unable to get past the BIOS screen at system startup. This is a strong security measure, as it renders a stolen computer useless unless the password is known. If you have a Toshiba laptop and want to change the BIOS password, you can quickly do it.

1. Power on the computer while holding down the "Esc" key. Enter your current password when prompted and press "Enter."
2. Press "F1" to enter the BIOS setup menu. Highlight "REGISTERED" with the arrow keys and press the space bar. Enter your password and press "Enter."
3. Restart the computer while holding "Esc" and hit "F1" again to enter the BIOS menu. Highlight "NOT REGISTERED" with the arrow keys and press the space bar. Enter your new password and press "Enter." Type the password again for verification and hit "Enter." Press "End" to save the changes, and "Y" to exit.

I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.

How can I get enter BIOS to change it so it willaccept the installation cd in the player. P8H61 Pro Asus motherboard

It depends on your computer manufacturer, Usually it will be by hitting either f2, f8, f10 or f12 during what's known as the splash screen. This is the first screen that flashes past quickly as soon as you start your computer. Be careful playing around in the BIOS though, they are fragile.

I have a gateway gx7022e windows xp computer. When i try to boot it up the white letters pop up then the screen goes to the gateway screen and freezes. Then my num lock comes on but my keyboard wont work....

At power on / power up, look for the key during the bootup (black screen with white text), that allows you to enter SETUP. If none designated such as F1, F2 F10 etc, then quickly click the delete button a few times and that may get you into setup. You may have to turn off the computer if you miss that window of time if it rfequires pressing the delete button a few times. Keep an eye out for the Enter Setup key though. To turn off the computer press and hold the power button 'till is shuts down and resart the process until you get to the setup screen in bios. In setup bios environment, look for set factory defaults and then save and restart. That may solve the issue of the lockup.

Can"t get past password protection must have got stoned and changed it. I WAS TOP ADMIN: now I can"t get into my download wizards castel.

Get Offline password remover, burn it on CD and boot from it.

Insert the CD and convince your BIOS that it should boot from it. How to boot from a CD varies from computer make to computer make, some BIOS shows a boot device select menu if you press ESC, F1, F2, F11 or F12 or something like that during the self test. (some even tell you on the screen what to press)

Offline password remover can be downloaded at:

Good Luck!

Need to set back to factory settings

There are a few ways you can do that, when you start up your pc at the top left corner it will say press f11 for recovery, it will only give you a few seconds to press it, if you press it you will be given options on how to start your recovery, or you can goto your start menu goto programs then scroll to system recovery, or you can restart your pc with the recovery disc that came with laptop to start system recovery.
