The display has a dark spot in the middle and shadow through out the screen

I just replaced the lamp in my RCA 50" DLP. Once i placed the new lamp in the set there is now a dark spot in the middle of the screen and then a shadow goes out from there, you can still see the picture but it is just darker than you would like. In the day time you reall can not see the screen but at night once it get dark you can see the picture but ie is just dark.

I have the same problem but it has started in the top left corner of the screen, it is getting worse. I would like to fix this myself if I can. I really can't believe that the parts for these HDTV's are this exspensive. This is why our economy is in the shape it's in, the average person can't afford these TV's.

I know the problem but trying to find the part to fix it is the problem. It is a little hard plastic lens in the light engine. If I can find the part I could fix it myself. I took it apart and found problem and ground and ground the burnt spot off and it got better but I would like to fix it right.

If it happened gradually I would suspect the lamp--a photo posted here might help.

The other possible cause in a Optical light engine which might be very expensive to replace in this brand.

I have an RCA M50WH72syx12, 50" DLP.

Yeah could be expensive if it isn't the lamp.
Mind you could be a little easier, might just be a fuse on the video relay. If you are confident in being able to open it up, check the relay that runs from the video input to the power capacitors and there should be a small fuse along that circuit.
If the fuse has a broken capsule then you may just be in luck. Failing finding a broken fuse, then I would agree with you on the bulb. But check the blub for any markings or cracks because they usually only make noise when the vacuum fails.
Hope this helps and good luck mate! :D

I have a RCA HD61LPW42 . I recently replaced the lamp but there seems to be a dull/dark spot on the TV screen where the color is always a dingy brown. when I replaced the bulb I noticed that it had...

Most likely you also have a bad Optical Block assembly. Do to the cost of the part, I would not invest the money to replace it. The Lamp failing would not cause this to happen.
I hope this helps,

My Samsung 50'' DLP has a few dark spots on it, as well as a dark streak on the screan...what are they? I have already replaced the bulb once after two years.

It is unlikely the DLP TI chip is bad--it would just be a few small spots. There are port holes on each side of the set where you should be able to see if anything is awry--shine a flashlight in one side and look from the other. If you have replaced the lamp, then you should be familiar with the insides although how long ago that was depends on the model HLM HLN HLP HLS(my first) HLT(improvement with LED lamp, yeah) Ax50 (newer). Best luck, -Ken

Optoma RD-50 DLP has dark vertical shadow on right side of screen

turning off the main can be very harmful to rear projectors if you dont wait for the cooling off period, for instance when you turn off the tv from the remote, the fans inside are still on in order to dissipate the heat given out by the lamp. as a result some of the lens inside the engine may have burns-in caused by excess of heat.thus leading to shadows on the screen.

hope this helps

Vertical shadow

I have read about this issue many times,
it is the mirror inside the light tube that is coming unglued , you have to take it apart and reglue the mirror in place.
I think if you remove the lamp you can see the mirror down the tube.
use some high temp silicone to reglue it.
