The jkl are coming up as number, cant seen to unlock it or how!

MORE DETAILS!
I really need to know operating system and Keyboard make and maybe model to give you a definite answer. I'll do my best though.
1.It could possibly be that your "function" key is stuck.
This key is usually blue or yellow and has "Fn" on it. Look on your keyboard and see if you can find a "Fn" key. If you find it try hitting it a few times and see if it works to change the letters back to numbers and vice versa. If there is no response than it could be stuck Internally.

2. To see if that is the problem try hitting some other keys and see if they come up right or are displaying their secondary "function"

3.If all other keys except jkluio are working normal than then next i would try the "num-lock" or any other "lock" buttons located on your keyboard. These are usually located at the top right hand corner above the number pad or to the right of the "backspace"

4.If that does not work than it is a setting in your computer and you need to restore your settings to default.
a)Hit start and go to the control panel
b)once in control panel select "devices and printers" or "printers and hardware" depending on your OS
c)Once in that menu you should see an icon that says "Keyboard"
Click on that...
d) This menu will vary a ton between different OS's and keyboards and drivers so you need to look around and try to set to default. There should be properties and settings you can adjust. Also a "troubleshooting" option is worth clicking on.

5.If your still not fixed, look in the keyboard menu in the control panel and click on the "Drivers" tab. In this tab you will see options to "Update" the driver and "Roll-Back" the driver. Try each of these once starting with "roll-back"

If NONE of these steps has resolved you issue than i would say the keyboard is broke and to get a new one...

Hope this helps GOOD LUCK!!!!

Medion notebook typing normally. getting numbers instead of letters

Examine your keyboard to ensure your "Number Lock" key is not activated.

This activation is indicated by the key being lit up.

If the key is activated, press it to deactivate the lock.

The number lock key will deactivate an entire segment of your keyboard

Start, click Run, and type regedit to open the Windows registry editor.

In the registry, open the below folders.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Control Panel\
Keyboard\

Within the keyboard folder, you should have a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators" with a value of 0, 1, or 2. Below is the explanation of each of these values.

0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
1 = Disable Num Lock.
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.

hope this helps

I recently used an external keyboard and mouse on my Joybook Lite U101 as I was using a big monitor in my office. However, when I went home and tried to use my Joybook without the external keyboard, some...

I think you'll find that the NumLock was left on when you disconnected the external keyboard, and numbers (shown on the laptop keys in blue on the right side of the keyboard) are in use instead of the normal characters. Just press the NumLock key, usually near the top right of the keyboard.

I am looking for the number lock key on my gateway computer

The Number Lock function is accessed by pressing and holding the blue "Fn" located at the bottom left of the keyboard and the key with a "padlock graphic" with a number "1" on it. Release both keys and number lock is activated. Press the same key sequence again to shut it off.

The Number Lock function and graphic is shown at the top of page 19 of the "Gateway Hardware Reference Manual" and is presented in the link for easy access.

I hope this helps & good luck! Please rate my reply, thanks.

My keys on my gateway laptop is not working right

Your keyboard has a "Numeric Pad" on/off button, in order to compress a full-sized keyboard (with its separate numeric-pad, on the right) into the smaller size of the laptop keyboard.

Press that on/off button, to resume "normal" operation of those keyboard characters that are "multi-labelled".

Sticky keys

Dear rwertheim

Try the following guide

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/03/20/key-fell-off-keyboard/

There are no guides from Gateway for the keys available for the but this guide will be more than enough to help you through this one in order to remove them. Its should be completely the same principle.

Cleaning the keys should be done without alchohol based cleaners because the lettering might be erased. Use some soap and warm water instead and gently scrab with a soft brush the bottom of the keys.

Please remember to take out your laptop battery/ac adaptor in any case since you will be working at hardware level with your equipment.

Regards, and I wish you no more sticky keys!

Please dont forget to rate this solutin!
