Does not allow you to push forward

I cannot get the cleaner to go forward. The belt is fine, as I checked that. It was working fine until I changed the water.

The screws were tight and it still rubs on the carpet.

Check to make sure that both clear window screws are tight. these will be the 2 screws on the very front and the 2 screws above the brushroll in the bottom of your steamer. if they come loose it will drag on your carpet and not want to push.

yes, that is what is happening. The clear window bottom edge snags on the carpet when pushing forward. The two screws are tight. Do you know if wheels can be adjusted up? Is the claeaner designed to be pushed forward then backwards, or only backwards.

Kenmore vacuum cleaner model no. 116. 5861279 belt replace

Do you need the belt or the directions for changing the belt? Sears Parts Direct has the manual for the 116.58612790 here: . The direct link to the manual is . See pages 14-15 of the manual.

To replace the belt, you need to remove the light cover and then the light bulb. Press in the sides of the cover and lift to remove it. the bulb needs to be pushed in and then turned couter-clockwise. Remove the cover screws. Then flip over the Power Mate and use the flat blade screwdriver to release both tabs. Turn the Power Mate back to right side up and press on the handle quick release pedal and lower the swivel. Tilt the cover forward until it snaps free. Carefully, use your screwdriver to pop the brush supports free on both sides to remove the brush. Slide off the old belt. (If needed, slide off the brush supports and washers. Clean the brush before reassembling the unit. Then replace the brush supports and washers.) Push the belt on motor drive and then onto the brush sprocket. Push the brush supports back into place on the base. (Make sure that this isn't assembled upside down.) Then line up the front of the cover with the base and tilt the cover back into place. Press firmly until you hear both sides click into place. Replace the cover screws, light bulb and bulb cover.

The belt is available here: . This is part number 5285; it's the direct replacement for the original 742024 belt.

I hope this helps.

Why am I unable to push vacuum forward on new area rug. But will work pulling backward. Works fine on old rugs and floor

It might be that the new rug has a backing that is not as stiff a the other rugs which can cause a rug to bunch up making it hard to push the vacuum forward.

I can't push my Dyson Dc33 on my new works backwards ok but not pushing forward?

Hi Fran, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC33 is engineered to work effectively on both hard and carpeted flooring. The cleaner head is engineered to adjust automatically for different floor types and carpet piles. You can also turn off the brush bar for hard floors and delicate rugs, using the brush control on the cleaner head.
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty pushing your machine forward on this particular type of new carpeting. If your DC33 worked effectively before the new carpeting was fitted, it doesn't sound like there's an issue with the vacuum itself. However, we'd appreciate the opportunity to take some further details about the issue, and may be able to suggest a resolution. You may also want to consider contacting the carpeting manufacturer directly, as they should be able to recommend the best way of caring for this specific carpeting.

When you have your DC33 easily to hand, please give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

Jerry Goss Nov 09, 2014 03:15PM EST Transmisson only engarges and works when pulling bacwkards. Will not work pushing forward. Please, would you give some suggestion on how to fix. Have disassembl

The transmission is shifted when the handle is pushed or pulled. This may come out of adjustment or be worn. It is also important to have a good belt on the brush roll as this aids in moving forward. The third problem may be worn wheels which also are necessary to make it drive properly. You need hands on to fix this. Take it to an expert in your area.

Power hose not working

your belt on the brushroller could of broken off. Check to see if it's broken, and if so, go to a local vacuum shop for a replacement belt. Maybe you should bring the vacuum in and have it inspected to see if there's anything else that could of happened to your machine.

My Kenmore Progressive keeps burning up belts even after I have changed the bag, cleaned the filters and checked to make sure the agitator was clean and free turning

The solution is to change the agitator. They wobble and displace the belt. Change it and you will have a new agitator with new bearings. It will keep it in line. It has to be in line with the system. Any shaking of the belt & lets go to the Kenmore store. I had the same problem.

Vacuum Cleaner

Greetings from GoVacuum,

It seems like you may have a belt problem. The best way to see if your belt is broken, is to turn the vacuum cleaner on and turn it upside down, and see of the brush roller is spinning while the vacuum is running.

If the brushes are NOT spinning, you will need to replace your belt. If you would like to email me with the make and model number (model numbers are located on the back, or the bottom of the vacuum) I would be happy to walk you through the belt change. I really enjoy sharing my knowledge and passion for fixing and selling vacuum cleaners.

I hope this helps you.
