Re-soldering the flyback transformer now I get no picture

Hi:

I tried your advice to re-solder the flyback transformer (all 10 pins)...but now I get no picture at all.

I can run VCR and other components and get a good picture. However, trying to run my cable box now...all I get is snow...

Any advice?

Check to see if you have it on the correct input with cable connector channel up or down. the fact that you have picture on other inputs tells me the signals not getting through somewhere. and it possible its not being routed correctly. so try changing inputs on remote also try searching for channels with cable plug up to it. Physicaly there may be a tuner issue.

The flyback transformer has solder cracks around the pins and most likely blown the FL231 Micro fuse to the right of the flyback.I would inspect the flybacks solder. The FL231 and the CL230 and DL231 should also be replaced ( near the flyback) You can get the ITC222 Convergence option missing repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com under the RCA repair kits. The kit contains the parts and the CD with repair instructions

I ALSO HAVE A 52 INCH RCA (2 YEARS OLD) I HAVE TRIED ALL OF THE TIPS THAT HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED. LUCKILY I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS UNIT.. AFTER A MONTH OF OVER THE PHONE TROUBLE SHOOTING FROM WARRANTY REPAIR CENTER THIS INCLUDED REMOVING THE BATTERIES IN CASE THE REMOTE WAS BAD. THEY FINALLY CAME AFTER IT YESTERDAY. THE PICKUP BOYS SAID THAT THEY ARE HAVING A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH THESE UNITS DOING THIS SAME THING. THEY ALSO SAID THAT SOME WERE BEING REPLACED WITH NEW ONES. NOT SURE IF RCA OR WARRANTY IS REPLACING (MINE WAS PURCHASED FROM BESTBUY WITH BEST BUY WARRANTY). IF ANYONE HAS SPOKEN TO ANYONE ABOUT A REPLACEMENT PLEASE RESPOND. I THINK IF THERE ARE SOME UNITS BEING REPLACED WITH NEW ONES WE ARE MORE THAN LIKELY GETTING THE SAME DEFECTIVE UNITS (WHICH WILL MORE THAN LIKELY WORK UNTIL OUT OF WARRANTY). I WISH THEY WOULD JUST GIVE REFUNDS OR CERTIFICATES TOWARDS NEW DIFFERENT UNITS MAYBE IF THERE WERE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS THIS MIGHT BE CONSIDERED.

RCA 52in. Projection TV D52W19B does anyone

Hello butmommy03,

This is the procedure but first I must warn you. You are dealing with one of the most dangerous parts of a TV The High Voltage anode or the CRT and the flyback transformer. That being said this is what you have to do:

1) unplug the TV from the wall or power strip.

2) take the back of the TV, and find the High voltage trippler and using a screwdriver grounded by a clip-lead to the grounding strip touch it to the exposed metal of the input to the High Voltage trippler.

3) using a soldering iron de-solder and remove the wire from the HV trippler.

4) Once this is done, angle the chassis to expose the bottom of the Deflection board, if this is no possible you will have to remove the deflection board to get a look at the bottom, once this is done and you can view the bottom of the board using a soldering iron and a de-soldering pump you can remove the solder from around the pins of the flyback transformer about 10 pins in all. Then remove the screws that hold the flyback in place. this is the procedure you requested,

However again I must ask you not to do this yourself and to get a qualified TV technician to troubleshoot this TV for you.

Thank you,

I have a RCA HD 52in and I'm have a problem with the Convergence Ic's

Hi, rca`s don`t have convergence IC`s, they use an entirely different system to perform convergence, you have a blown chemical fuse and 3-6 bad solder joints on your flyback transformer. replace fl231 chemical fuse rated at 400ma. right beside flyback (theres 3 of them your bad one is the middle one)and while your soldering re-solder all of the flyback transformer pins and your tv will be back to normal :) video-tek

The picture has sucked in and kind of looks like a bow tie and the colors are out of alignment

very common problem on this unit. on the deflection module next to the flyback transformer, ther are 3-boxlike(square) solder in fuses. the middle one is 400ma (less then 1/2 amp) and will read open. replace with 1/2amp pico fuse and solder all pins on flyback transformer, as this is the cause of the fuse opening and the convergence to fail leaving bowed-in concaved pix. dime to a dollar that'll "FIX-YA" up. :) mch

Flyback Transformer

Flyback transformers rank about a 5 or 6 on dificult to repace.. depending on the model of tv that you are working with.. the rca itc222 can be difficult.. dependend on your soldering experences. To replace this one you have to pull the chassis tray up and out to get to the bottom... unsolder the pins ussally a vacum desoldering tool is required because it is important to remove all solder from the pins..then gently pry the clips that hold it on the board... this is where you can mess up unless the pins have be completly solder free you can crack the board... NOW the hard part... removing the wire from the flyback.. if the flyback is the type that the wire comes out. the wires will eather have a clip around the large wire or you will have to go to the other end of wire and pull it out from the splitter. eather way this wire is firmly in an will require gently but extremmly firm pulling to get out.
