    the stupid thing tells me ink is empty, then i replace it, and it says there is not cartridge!!!

Like most inkjets, the print output of this device is hopeless and we never print from it. It is however very useful for multiple page scanning and for receiving faxes electronically, BUT if it believes there is a problem with one or more of the ink cartridges, it eventually reaches the point where it can't be used for anything - even those things that don't require printing!

So here's what you do. At the side of each of the cartridges nearest the right hand side of the machine (looking from the front) there are some ribs in the translucent plastic body of each cartridge. You need to black these out so that the magic eyes that attempt to see through the cartridges when they are in place cannot see right through. This cons the machine into believing that the cartridge is there and has ink in it. I did this with a little strip of black fabric tape on each one, but I'm sure insulating tape or possibly even masking tape would do just as well.

After doing this and lowering the cover, the machine will ask you to confirm whether each of the cartridges have been renewed. Tell it they have all been replaced.

Doing this should allow the parts of the machine that work ok to carry on working without interference from the part which probably never worked satisfactorily from the day the machine was made. (IMHO the world would be a much better place had ink let printers never been invented.) Cheers!

Why does my machine's LCD show "NO CARTRIDGE" even though I have already installed all the ink cartridges? Description:
An ink cartridge is not installed properly. Check that the ink cartridges are installed properly and reinstall the ink cartridge following the procedures below:

  1. Open the ink cartridge cover door.

  2. Push the 4 colored levers down to release all four ink cartridges from the machine.

  3. Each color has its own correct position to match the color of the cartridges with the color of the levers. Insert all of the ink cartridges in the direction of the arrow on the label until it clicks into place.

  4. Close the ink cartridge cover.

  5. If you replaced an ink cartridge, the LCD may ask you to verify that it was a brand new one. For example, Did You Change Black? For each new cartridge you installed, press the up navigation key or 1 or "+"(Yes). If the ink cartridge you installed is not a brand new one, be sure to press the down navigation key or 2 or "-"(No).

If you mix the colors by installing an ink cartridge in the wrong position, clean the print head several times after correcting the cartridge installation.

Once you open an ink cartridge, install it in the machine and use it up within six months of installation. Use unopened ink cartridges by the expiration date written on the cartridge package.

If you have followed this procedure and still have the same error condition, make sure you are using Brother Genuine Supplies. Generic supplies can cause this error condition.

If the problem continues after verifying the cartridges are installed correctly and that you are using Brother Genuine Supplies, then there may be a problem with the unit. Please contact the appropriate Customer Service Center.

    if it's error 41, you're unfortunately dead out of luck and need to either contact brother or buy a new printer :(



    if it's telling you they are empty, you can only reset that by telling
    the printer they are not empty, and then of course the printer will
    think these are full carts and will continue printing until it decides
    they are empty again (which can run the risk of burning up the print
    head carriage, and that is an expensive fix).



    if the carts are newer (say, the lc 41s or 51), there is actually a
    piece of plastic inside that lowers with the ink level. if you have
    these, you either need to refill or get new carts, or else the printer
    will keep tracking the plastic level gauge, and if your carts are close
    to empty, the gauge is at the bottom.

Brother 2200 driver


Most of the drivers located on the brother website are in the form of an Executable setup file which goes through and sets up your printer. The INF files are there just need to unzip the file and find them in the directories if you want to set up the printer manually.

Printer not recongnising new cartridge


It is because it is not a true cartridge from Brother MFC295CN AllInOne InkJet Printer. I too have experienced this lately. Used to have cartridges refilled at Cartridge World and because they were original cartridges with liquid refil they worked. Since Cartridge World has stopped refilling and just replaces with seemingly the same thing, but they are not, they are rejected by the printer. False economy now and Cartridge World are going to find themselves out of business eventually. It's a way of putting a stop to cloning.

Black ink will not print. Colours ok


Get a syringe, remove the needle, remove the ink cartridge and use the syringe to blow air GENTLY through the hole the cartridge connects to. Make sure you have a cleaning cloth to remove ink dislodged from pipe connected at the print head, do this gently to remove any obstruction and there should not be too much mess and can easily be cleaned up.

I put a new yellow ink in and it still says it is empty


First off brother printer's are **** ! you have to shake the ink around place it back into the carrier and move it back and forth ....i know it sounds stupid but brother printers have weight sensors in them.

Sometimes, you have to install the software, then install the hardware. Try plugging it in to a different port on the router. Make sure the plug is seated properly. try a different cable. Read the install documents that should be with what you downloaded, or online where you got it from. Read the FAQ's at that site. Okay, here is a real funny one, try Windows troubleshooting.

Refill the container


I have tried this by cracking open the case, drilling through a suggested spot (can't remember more than that), inserting ink suitable for the cartride, and then plugging the drilled hole with wax dripped from a candle.

It worked for a while, but then I got a terrible leak and made a mess of the table below the printer.

I'm thinking of taking my empty cartridges to a cartride-refill place (like Cartridge World here in Ontario Canada), but I haven't tried that yet....

Brother laser toner refilling


ok recommendation this will get messy and you can break your cartridge if not carefull from what you had suggested here
there is an easier way to this and a little cheaper
have you ever heard of a company called walgreens
well they started a new service in there camera department where they can refill old cartridges with the proper equipment only at select stores accross the world and im sure there is a store near you that has this instituted this would be better for you

the other way is too order cartridges threw stores like staples bestbuy comp usa this would be cheaper
