WON'T PUMP DOWN OR GO INTO RINSE AND SPIN CYCLE

The problem started and I figured that the drain pump was plugged. Cleaned the pump, but unit will not go into the drain rinse or spin cycle. I thought it was a bad motor board so I replaced it with a new one. Still get the same results. I cleaned both of the door locks thinking that might be the problem. The pressure switch is working ok. The diagnostic code comes with a code 11, A-1, _ _. The 11 code indicates difficulty in reading memory. I have cleared the codes and and get the same results. I find it hard to believe that the new board is the problem as the old board had the same problem. I don't know where to look next for the problem. Thanks Rod Webber

This machine is a Maytag FAV6800A Neptune.

  • webberor Sep 27, 2008

Both of the door locks appear to be working as they lock and the lock light comes on. Yet I have not ruled out the possibility of replacing both of them if no other solution comes forth.

  • webberor Sep 27, 2008

I mentioned in my original post that I had already cleaned the door locks and that they appeared to be working.

  • webberor Sep 27, 2008

Sorry I didn't mention in my first post that I can energise the pump with an external power source and drain the unit. Even though the door locks might be the problem, I'm waiting to see if there might be another solution before I replace them.

  • webberor Sep 27, 2008

This a neptune fav6800a, it has only one belt, the motor works. I have opened up the locks and cleaned the contact points, and all appears to be ok, but the locks control low voltage and maybe there is a failure with them that I cannot see. Still looking for any other possibility before I replace them.

  • webberor Sep 29, 2008

I want to thank all of those who responded to my problem, even though none of the suggestions led to the final resolution. This is how I eventually arrived at the answer to the problem. The diagnostic codes were "11","A-1","- -". The instructions said to clear the diagnostic codes, then unplug and replug the power to the machine. The mistake I was making was in trying to clear these codes as a group instead of clearing each one separately. Once I cleared each one separately the problem was resolved. The unit is now operating properly. Thanks again, Rod Webber.

How to replace the belt the procedure is given

Remove power, pull washer out from the wall, tilt washer against the wall to replace the belts. The belts can be replaced from the bottom. It may be easier for you to remove the front panel to access the pump belt easier, but this is not always necessary as it is possible to replace the pump belt with the front in place. For proper belt adjustment, see picture below.

for the pictures of the belt as how it is fitted in the machine just click the link below
http://www.applianceaid.com/maywash_belt.html

the causer for washer - won't spin: Make sure nothing is caught on top of the inner basket or between the inner and outer tank. The motor sits on a roller and track assembly with springs to help keep the belt tension. This track gets rusty and dirty and may need cleaning, the track/glides also need a lubricant to keep the track moving freely. Sometimes the center bearing can get worn and bind on the transmission, this can, and will stop the washer from spinning and may also burn the belt. Try to turn the belt by hand, if it is super stiff...possible the center bearing has seized.

Hi,

It doesn't pump or spin If it doesn't pump water out or spin, check to see if the motor is running, then proceed as follows:

  • If the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley or a broken pump belt. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it. If the pump belt is broken or looks quite worn, replace it--but be sure to check the pump pulley before you change the belt.

  • If the motor isn't running, the lid switch may be defective. If so, the washing machine can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

It pumps, but doesn't spin If your washer pumps out the water but doesn't spin, check these:

  • The lid switch may be defective. If it is, the washing machine doesn't spin. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

  • The motor coupler may be broken. Many Whirlpool®-manufactured washers use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. You may need to replace it.

  • A belt may be broken. Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)

  • The clutch may be worn. If your washer is a GE, it may use a clutch to come up to the proper spin speed. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the unit from spinning well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician.

  • The drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor.

  • The transmission may not be shifting properly. Older washers produced by Whirlpool® have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may drain the water but not spin. This is a complex system, if your washer has a shifter problem, you may want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it.

  • The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. Call a qualified appliance repair technician.

It spins only with the lid closed For safety, washing machines are made so that they spin only with the lid closed. The lid switch prevents the spinning action when the lid is up.

My Samsung Model#WA5451ANW/XAA washer keeps repeating the rinse and spin cycle over and over and my clothes are still wet because spin cycle is not spinning clothes fast enough.

From the information you have supplied, I suspect that the machine is not draining the water away,
1] Check that the drain pump is working (it would be easier to hear it running, before the machine starts the spin cycle, or if your machine has a "drain down" feature)
2] If the pump is running, stop the machine and unplug it from the mains power. Remove the machine drain tube from the point where it is plumbed into the household waste pipe, and lay it down into a bucket, or large pan and allow the water to drain down [ you should expect to get up to 2 gallons (10 Litres) of water from the machine]
Allow the water to drain down completely by holding the drain hose as low as possible into the bucket.
3] once the water has drained completely, remove the drain hose from the pump and check that the drain hose is not blocked.
4] If the hose was clear, and the pump was running (in tests [1] & [2] ), it will be necessary to check that the drain pump, and the main hose from the tub to the pump are clear of obstructions.
Remove any foreign objects, and re-assemble the hoses to the pump to the machine, and the drain hose to the domestic plumbing.

Plug the machine into the mains power, and and set the machine to run on the "last rinse" and "spin" cycles and test to see if the problem has been rectified.

I hope this helps cure your problem.

Why did my washer quit spinning out in spin cycle

Quite often the problem with spin cycles is that the cycle cannot start until a sufficient amount of wash/rinse water has drained. So what will often happen is that the washer drains, the cycle starts, a lot of water comes out of the clothes, it stops, waits for the water to drain, then restarts. If the drain pump or drain lines are restricted or blocked or the pump is faulty, the unit may never achieve spin cycle.

Washer won't go into spin cycle, stops after final rinse. When I try drain &rinse it still will not spin.

If the unit does not spin correctly, this is usually an indication that the unit can also not drain. The unit will not spin if it senses a blockage or issue with the drain lines and/or pump. Try to check the drain lines in the back of the unit for any issue, and then see if you have an access panel to get to the coin trap or drain pump itself. Often socks and debris will clog up in this area and cause your problems.

Washer won't spin after rinse cycle

Hello Dorothy - Does the drain pump make a humming noise? If so, there may be a restriction in the drain line or siphoning. Otherwise since it is such a complex unit I would recommend contacting a professional to have either the pump or timer diagnose.

Water won't drain after the rinse cycle.

Hi ralfph,

Before the Spin Cycle should start, all water must be drained out of the machine. If it does not start, it could likely mean the Drain pump may be clogged. Please follow my below tip on the fix:

ACCESS, DRAIN & CLEAN THE DRAIN PUMP FILTER...

If this does not help, the drain pump may be faulty.

Kind Regards

Our whirlpool sport will not drain, 5d code has appeared. what can we do

SUDS LOCK (OVERDOSE OF DETERGENT DETECTED DURING THE WASH CYCLE)

If suds are detected continuously by the pressure switch during the drain or spin phases, the washer will fill 4 liters of water and during 5 minutes the unit will rest without tumbling, the water will be drained and it will try to spin or drain again.
Possible Causes/Procedure
• If too much detergent was used:
- Run the unit through a RINSE/SPIN cycle.
- Run a NORMAL cycle without adding any detergent,
• This should clear the unit of the excess detergent.
1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the drain pump, pressure switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Check/clean drain pump filter of foreign objects.
5. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
6. Check drain pump.
7. Check the pressure switch.
8. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic Test or any cycle.
