Question about Western Digital My Book Essential Edition (WDG1U5000N) 500 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

"Drive not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"

Please help! I have all my kids/family photos backed up to this and no back up of my back up!

I've had this for over a year and now it wont open saying it is corrupted. What do I do?

I tried opening from my pc and laptop - same results.

Thanks!
K. Cravey I sort of have the same problem:

I used to have my hd in one of my usb-ports named F. Then, while the hd was shut off, I plugged in a USB pen, which apparently have taken the place in the F port from the hd. After I removed the usb pen, the hd won't respond to any other port than F, even though I have tried switching the usb cable in the hd into every single port on my computer. This is not good, since all of my music is placed on the hd. and btw, it all took place in WinXp. Hope to get your help.

Look around "My Computer" for other drive letters - it's likely that your computer just changed it to a different letter and it's still there.

I'd guess it would be either E or G because they usually only bump by one letter.

You unplugged it when data was still written on it so it was corrupted. Some files are still recoverable so use

to get them.

You can use free softwares such as Pandora Recovery to recover data. I cannot guarantee that it will recover any, but it doesn't hurt to try. There are also a lot of other payware softwares you can try if you think it would help.

Check similar threads...But basically if you're HD is intact use Testdisk 6.8....Read the documentation first otherwise you may make it worse....Yes it can still be worse ! Try explaining the symptoms in detail like what error message you're getting etc...The more you detail the better we can help you...
