Whenever I scan on the MX310, whether it be 300dpi or 150 dpi, it is always faded whenever I try to look at or print the PDF. No idea why this is happening. I have messed with all the settings, put it on grayscale, etc. Nothing seems to fix the issue. Any ideas?

Hi,

Scanning Methods
You can select from the various scanning methods.
>If You Want to Edit or Print the Scanned images MP Navigator EX enables you to edit the scanned images, such as optimizing or trimming. You can also start application software from MP Navigator EX to edit or print the scanned images. For detailed operations of MP Navigator EX, refer to the Scanning Guide on-screen manual. You can also use the Operation Panel to open MP Navigator EX as well as open it using the computer.

>If You Want to Scan Originals with Advanced Settings ScanGear enables you to scan originals with advanced settings such as the resolution. For detailed operations of ScanGear, refer to the Scanning Guide on-screen manual.
Besides the above-mentioned methods, you can use a TWAIN- or WIA- (Windows Vista and
Windows XP only) compliant application software and the Control Panel (Windows Vista and
Windows XP only) to scan originals with this machine. For detailed operations, refer to the
Scanning Guide on-screen manual.
>Opening MP Navigator EX using the Operation Panel
>>(Macintosh only) Prepare your computer before scanning. This operation is not necessary for Mac OS X v.10.4.x.User's Guide on-screen manual.
>>Turn on the machine.
>>Load the original document on the Platen Glass or the ADF.
>>Press the SCAN button, then press the Color or Black button.

You will need to plug the printer andcomputer together with a USB cable in order to use the printer's scanningcapabilities. You can also choose to load documents on thescanning glass, which is covered by the scanner's lid. This is how to do it. 1. Turn on the printer by pressingthe "Power" button until it illuminates and turn on the attachedcomputer. Wait for the printer to finish its initialization process beforecontinuing. 2. Place the document face up inthe automatic document feeder if the document's papers are uniform in andfit in the feed tray. Adjust the paper-width guide to the of thedocument's papers. 3. Place the first page of thedocument face down on the scanning glass after you have lifted the scanningunit's cover, if you choose to not use the automatic document feeder. Close thecover again slowly so the document does not shift on the glass. 4. Press the "Scan"button on the printer's control panel, then press either "Black" or"Color," depending on the type of scan you would like to perform. 5. Retrieve the scanned documentfrom the automatic document feeder's output tray once the scan job is over.Otherwise, click on the "Yes" button on the computer's screen, indicating you would like to scan another page. 6. Lift the scanning unit's cover, remove the document from the scanning glass and place the next page of thedocument face down on the glass. Close the scanner's cover and click on the"OK" button on the screen to scan the next page. Repeat this processuntil all of the document's pages have been scanned.

How do you scan an item to the computer

Use the scan features
Scanning is the process of converting text and pictures into an electronic format for
your computer. You can scan just about anything: photos, magazine articles, text
documents, and even 3D objects, as long as you are careful not to scratch the glass
on your HP All-in-One.
You can use the scanning features of your HP All-in-One to do the following:
● Scan text from an article into your word processor and quote it in a report.
● Print business cards and brochures by scanning a logo and using it in your
publishing software.
● Send photos to friends and relatives by scanning your favorite prints and
including them in e-mail messages.
● Create a photographic inventory of your house or office, or archive treasured
photos in an electronic scrapbook.
To use the scan features, your HP All-in-One and computer must be connected and
turned on. The HP All-in-One software must also be installed and running on your
computer prior to scanning. To verify that the HP All-in-One software is running on a
Windows computer, look for the HP Digital Imaging Monitor in the system tray at the
lower right side of the screen, near the time. On a Mac, the HP All-in-One software is
always running.
Note Closing the HP Windows system tray icon can cause your HP All-in-
One to lose some of its scan functionality and result in the No Connection
error message. If this happens, you can restore full functionality by restarting
your computer or by starting the HP Image Zone software.
For information on how to scan from the computer, and how to adjust, resize, rotate,
crop, and sharpen your scans, see the onscreen HP Image Zone Help that came with
your software.
This chapter contains information on: sending a scan to and from different
destinations, and adjusting the preview image.
Scan to an application
You can scan originals placed on the glass directly from the control panel.
1. Load the original face down on the right front corner of the glass.
2. Press Start Scan on the control panel.
A preview image of the scan appears in the HP Document Viewer window on
the computer, where you can edit it.
For more information on editing a preview image, see the onscreen HP Image
Zone Help
that came with your software.
3. Make any edits to the preview image in the HP Scan window. When you have
finished, click Accept.
The HP All-in-One sends the scan to the HP Image Zone software, which
automatically opens and displays the image.
User Guide 31
Scan
The HP Image Zone has many tools that you can use to edit your scanned image.
You can improve the overall image quality by adjusting the brightness, sharpness,
color tone, or saturation. You can also crop, straighten, rotate, or resize the image.
When the scanned image looks just the way you want it, you can open it in another
application, send it through e-mail, save it to a file, or print it. For more
information on using the HP Image Zone, see the onscreen HP Image Zone Help.

Black line on copies and scans - not when i print

Are you using the automatic document feeder (ADF) when copying/ scanning? If so, clean the area on the left side of the platen glass -- that is where the original document is read. There is probably some dirt or other foreign material that is blocking the scanner and causing lines.

Dual sided scanning - how?

From the scan section, chose your recipient(s) first.
Then go to Image Settings > Auto/Original >
Choose 2-sided booklet or tablet, choose portrait or landscape orientation. Then scan as usual.

I believe you can also make this a default under System
Settings > [Admin Login] > Image Send Settings
