SOURCE: russell hobbs microwave will not work, but grill & oven ok.

The magnetron has failed. This is the part of the oven which produces the microwaves and they can fail without warning at any time after they leave the factory. Failures are not as common as they once were, but unless the oven still qualifies for a warranty repair it's always more cost effective to scrap the oven and buy a new or used replacement.

In your case, you may be able to recoup some money by selling your oven purely as an electric fan oven with grill. The magnetron failure does not in any way indicate that the grill or fan oven are about to fail.

If you do decide to replace the magnetron, make sure that a new microwave gasket is fitted as well; this is a small wire mesh doughnut (US= donut) which fits around the neck of the magnetron and is crushed into place when fitted. Once used they cannot safely be re-used.

An integrated circuit constructed to provide control functions to a toaster oven cooking appliance. The control functions including compensation for input voltage fluctuations, compensation for residual heat due to recycling, audible signal generation, multiple mode selection, safety shut off and others. The integrated circuit also provides flexibility to accommodate multiple models of an appliance in a product line. If you have the tools and the part, you can fix it yourself otherwise to the repair shop

Require replacement wire which triggers the catch when the operating handle is pushed down. Where can I buy it?.

Russell Hobbs products are firmly placed at the budget end of the market and many of their products have little or no spares availability as they're often not designed to be repaired.

However, they do supply spares for some models if you're unable to fabricate the part yourself, see web address below:-

Russell Hobbs 9209 Classic toaster

I had the same problem which I managed to solve. The electro magnet that holds the toast lever down takes its power from a poor joint.
Remove the bottom of the toaster. You will see 2 wires encased in a heat proof sleeving going from the small circuit board. One of these wires dissapears up inside the heating element board about mid way along the board. You will now have to remove the metal covering by twisting 6 tabs. This is best done by taking off the black knobs you use to push the toast down - if you can - I couldnt, so I had to use long nosed pliers to bend the tabs and then with difficulty, remove the metal cover. YOu should now see the terminal that the wire is connected to. It is this connection that fails either between the wire and coonnector or connector and heatin element on the reverse side. I put a small bolt through the hole and used a nut to tighten the pressed fitting. I didnt use solder because I thought that it would just melt!
Anyway, my toaster worked after that. Russell Hobbs failed to give me any advice at all.
I hope that has helped.
