Digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. These days many retailers sell these for around $7 for a package of four AA (about $15-19 for the batteries with charger). Keep in mind they'll save you big bucks in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many, many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may slap yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

My view screen is white but I am able to view my pictures on my memory card

Most likely a dead CCD (imager) unit. Happens to these cameras. Usually they are supplied with the lens and are expensive if ordered from Fujifilm - could be about $200-300. I wouldn't recommend using used parts because they could break down again sooner or later. I suggest you buy a new camera.
I have worked for Fujifilm.

My Fujifilm s5000 camera turns on but when I go to take a picture it turns off. I can view my pictures but can't take any.

Your memory card or internal memory may be full. I've run into situations where the card full doesn't flash on the monitor or LCD screen because there is lets say 3 gigs of memory left but the picture you are taking is 3.5gig's it won't take the picture because there isn't enough memory to put the image anywhere. Download your pictures to your computer, format your memory card and all should be good again. If you are using the internal memory you will need to obtain (buy) a memory card for your camera and download from the internal memory each picture from the memory card one by one until all the internal pictures are on the removable memory card then download these to the computer. After you have them on the computer go back into the internal memory and delete each of thse pictures and you are ready to start taking pictures once again. it took me longer to type this then the process will take to do.

Fuji finepix s5000 digital camera

Your CCD sensor has failed. Common digital problem that uses Sony sourced CCD chips. Proffesional factory replacement of CCD is only fix or buy another physicaly damaged unit and swap CCD boards. Not hard but intricate and time consuming.

Fujifilm Finepix S5000

the problem might be inside. when cameras are dropped cable connections inside loosen. try to bring it to your local camera specialist and have it checked. if you open it yourself it might cause more damage.
