Hi Gareth,

This model no. has a built-in "self diagnostic software" that can be access to narrow down where the fault came from.
How to enter to self diagnostic screen display.
1. Turn on the main power switch of the TV and enter into standby mode.
2. Press the following sequence of buttons on the remote control.

Hello my television is a sony KV32HX15U , - 11_10_2011_11_05_29_pm.jpg
Self diagnostic error menu will be display. It has an error code no. with the corresponding numerical digit "0" means no fault detected or "1" fault has been detected. See sample picture below.

The diagnostic code result is as follows.
    E11 : 8v (0,225) 5
    E09 : tuner (0,225) 1
    .
    Regards

    Thanks for the response.

E11 (8Volts supply to jungle IC) error code had most number of times detected by the processor that is gone to malfunction and followed by E09 (no tuner has been detected).

I believe that the E11 is the origin of the fault that is linked by the fault E09 which is related to each other because if the 8Volts supply line is faulty the tendency of the 5volts supply line for the tuner will gone bad also.

This kind of fault needs to have an skill of an expert to resolve the issue.
The following parts most likely to be faulty and needs to checked using the multimeter.

    1. Electrolytic capacitor (C631,1000uf/25V

    2. 8Volts Regulator IC (IC603)

    3. Electrolytic capacitor (C610, 470uf/16V)

    4. Zener diode (D615)

    5. 5volts regulator IC (IC604)

    6. Electrolytic capacitor (C605, 470uf/16V)

    7. Zener diode (D600)

The parts above must be checked to determine where the fault came from. Bad solder joints must be isolated also. Cracked, cold, dried solder is very common because of aging, heat build up upon operation. This is hard to spot, magnifying glass is needed to see them on the board.

This is fixable, suspected faulty parts is widely available at electronics store and not expensive.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't troubleshoot the unit yourself, I would advice you to ask for an assistance of a qualified TV Technician.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Ratings and feedback is highly appreciated.

    Have a nice day!

I have a multimeter and esr capacitance meter also I have a intrest in electronics so I would like to test the suspected faulty parts myself.

    Regards

  • Anonymous Nov 14, 2011

Ok mate, since you have necessary test instruments, check the parts I've mentioned above. Check also bad solder joints on the jungle IC (IC201) this is a rectangular 64 pin IC, this is prone for bad solder joints because its heat up upon operation. Resolder the joints as much as possible but make sure that you will not short the leads. Please use pointed soldering iron (30w only).

I have tested some components results are for capacitors they were tested in circuit.

    1. Electrolytic capacitor (C631,1000uf/25V ) result 1200uf / ESR 0.08
    2.
    3  Electrolytic capacitor (C610, 470uf/16V) result ? / ESR 0.18
    4.
    5.
    6. Electrolytic capacitor (C605, 470uf/16V) result ? / ESR 0.13

The last two capacitors will have to be removed to get a capacitance reading so I am checking the components as they a listed in numerical order also there dose not seem to be any bad solder.

How do I test the item no (2). 8Volts Regulator IC (IC603) please state in circuit test and removed from circuit test.

    Thanks
    Regards

  • Anonymous Nov 16, 2011

Resistance check on 8 and 5 volts regulator is not the best way to test its condition because based on my experienced there's a variable resistance reading when it is brand new and used in the circuit.

I would advice you to check the input voltage reading on pin no. 1 both IC603 and IC604. They have common input voltage, at least higher than 10volts.

Output voltage on pin no. 2 should be a regulated 8volts (IC603)

Output voltage on pin no. 2 should be a regulated 8volts (IC604)

Pin no. 3 of IC603 and IC604 (middle pin) is a common ground.

Please let me know the voltage reading on these part to continue our diagnosis.

Be patient, 8 and 5 volts line splits to different parts, series of test will be done.

Note : while testing on the voltages, make sure that you will not short the leads of your multimeter to other pin to avoid further damaged (short circuit)

Put the black test prod of your multimeter on the chassis ground while on testing. Grounded wire around the picture tube is one of the best chassis ground.

    6. Electrolytic capacitor (C605, 470uf/16V) Result 546.0 uf /.010 esr

    7. Zener diode (D600) Have found D600 no component or holes in board

Capacitors have been removed checked and re soldered back in.
Regulators have had the solder heated up and then set
I cannot find the zener diodes check to see if there on board .

The television still switches on the sound can be heard then the picture takes about 10 seconds to display but still switches off after 20 minutes

    Regards

You are getting the right input and output voltage from the 8 volts regulator IC, it means that 1-7 parts are in good condition.

May you please clear the data on the self diagnostic screen by pressing "80" while on the self dianostic mode to ensure we get the right error code.

Check again the self diagnostic screen once the unit gone to shutdown after a few minutes and then let me know the result.

  • Anonymous Nov 25, 2011

I have a suspected parts which is gone bad on this kind of symptoms but I want to make sure that it is supported by the self diagnostic result before to advice you which parts are going to replaced.

    Thank you for your patience.

  • Anonymous Nov 25, 2011

    Hi jdvillanueva

I have cleared the self diagnostic data , I have checked the self diagnostic screen again and it shows no fault.
So no fault detected by self diagnostic.

    Regards

  • Anonymous Nov 25, 2011

May I know if the unit gone to subsequent shutdown before you check the self diagnostic screen, if not, please wait until the set shutdown and then check it again.

    Hi jdvillanueva

I reset data then turned off television then turned on television checked that data was reset. Then turned off television again then turned on television again and left it to switch off its self which it did and then I checked self diagnostic screen {no fault detected by self diagnostic)

    Regards

  • Anonymous Nov 25, 2011

Since there's no error detected through self diagnostic screen, the fault is on the low voltage power supply board (voltage regulator circuitry). I would advice you to replaced IC601 MCZ3001D part no. 8-759-670-30 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/MCZ3001DB-SOCKET... . Also check for bad solder joints and the ESR value of electrolytic capacitor on that section C607, C608, C618, C637, C638, C640

  • Anonymous Nov 26, 2011

The capacitors are within ESR values (good condition). Please replaced IC601, Q606 and Q607. You may not replaced Q606 and Q607 if they are almost identical on resistance reading.

  • Anonymous Nov 27, 2011

    Hi jdvillanueva

I have come up against a problem since removing and checking
    C607 result 10.18 uf Esr 3.4
    C608 result 4.46 uf Esr 0 .96
    C618 result 219.0 uf Esr 0.18
    C637 result 41.99 nf Esr.51
    C638 result 94.86 uf Esr 0.48
    C640 result 48.45 uf Esr 1.54

When television is switched on it dose not switch on I get a green light then I get 11 red flashing lights .

    regards

11 blinks is a jungle 8v malfunction like what on the previous self diagnostic screen result. Please make sure that the capacitors are in correct polarity on the board (negative side to negative sign on the board). Please relaced IC601 and if the reading on Q606 and Q607 are not identical to each other, replaced them both also. I've provided you the link of parts on ebay a while ago.

My sony KDP-51WS550 tv has no picture, only sound, when i turn it on then shuts off and red light blinks 10 times . but by turning it off and on a few times the picture will come back on and stay through...

Hello,

The problem is from the lamp of the television, it is about to develop a fault that is why the picture goes off but you have sound.

The 10 blinks you see on the led is a symbol that the television is having a fault that needs to be checked.

The solution is for you to open up the television and locate the lamp and replace it with a new one, once you replace the lamp, the television will be in good condition once again.

Take care and good luck

Kp-53xbr200 SONY video shuts off but sound stays on

Sounds like a bad solder connection. When you lose video, does the on screen display still work, and if so how about your picture in picture? If no OSD or PIP works then you may be loosing your High Voltage to the picture tubes. Some circuit board assemblies are no longer available from Sony for this model so you may be out of luck if the problem is more than a bad connection.
