Could you be a little more specific? What OS are you using and where did you see these messages? Did you go to Sounds and Audio Devices (or the Vista equivalent)?

Installed lynex on my compaq presario sr2010nx and i cant get the sound to work

Make sure the audio drivers are in the device manager. Make sure the volume is turned up and not muted. Look at the Audio/Sound properties in the Control Panel and make sure they are not muted and the volume is up. Make sure you have the speakers plugged into the light green port on the computer and that the speakers are on and the volume is turned up.

Hi--This link will show you where your CMOS switch is on your board. (I used to have a sr2010nx). It is a jumper and not a button, but the instructions are clear as a bell. Just scroll down the page till you see "clearing the bios". Expand that section and it will show you the exact steps to take.

Removing the battery and popping it back in will not hurt anything. You might test it too when you have it out.
Best wishes.

My compaq presario sr2010nx desktop won't turn on. I tried fooling with the off/on switch wiring and it came on for a short time. All was well. I hadn't used it for a week and tried to turn it...

Hi.

Sounds more like a power supply problem. First test the on/off switch by tracing the wires to where it connects to the mother board. The plug is usually marked "pwr sw" . Unplug the wire from the board & short out the 2 pins where the switch was plugged in using a small screw driver or any other conductive material. If the pc still fails to turn on, try replacing the power supply.
Best wishes,

Black Screen Compaq Presario

Do you see the BIOS splash screen or anything?
Try booting into safe mode by pressing F* as soon as you power on the computer. If the monitor works, then it is a bad driver. Roll back to a previous restore point, boot to last known good coonfiguration. Last Known good configuration is available from the same as the safe mode screen.

If this is helpful, please comment and rate. Have any other questions, please let me know.

Sound

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, then double click the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon. Make sure the Mute box isn't checked and the Volume bar is at least 1/2 way on the Volume tab. Also click the Speaker Volume tab and adjust the sound there as well if needed. You might also want to check the "Place volume icon in the taskbar" icon so you can easily adjust the sound settings next time.
