1996 chevy 1500 truck when i turn left turn signal on back up lights come on and when i turn the right turn signal on the emergency blinkers come on. The front blinkers work correct.

Most cars the flasher relays are up under the dash not far from the steering column. I had several makes of cars and they all were up there.

There is only one blinker '. If it works for a left turn there is something else wrong. Check the lamps and sockets. Could be a broken wire.
Turn on the emergency flashers and walk around the car to look at all of the lights that should flash.

Hello: There are two things that could be dausing this: One is the board that holds the bulbs in the tail light assembly, it could be shorted internally. The other thing is on the rear right fender on the inside there is a electrical distribution box for the rear lights it also could be internally shorted, also the connectors to that box could be corroded and causing your problem. It helps if you describe the problem. Does not blink? blinks fast? indicator stays on? right or left? both? do the emergency blinkers work ok? Parking lights work? brake lights?

this sounds like a switch problem. replace your multifunction switch(turn signal switch).

you need to check the "combination turn signal/hazard flasher/daytime running lights module"
it is located in the junction block,the junction block is adjacent to and left of the steering column,you need to remove the lower dash panel below the steering column,then remove the steel knee brace.

You most likely need a new blinker switch - the emergency flasher is also most likely bad - there is one flasher for turn signals - and one for the emergency lights --
Replacing a blinker switch is best left to the pros --
also - Take down the Vin # and call the local dealer - - ask about recalls and Service bulletins.

check fuse.if good you got grounding problems or faulty turn signal switch.

check for a short it could be anywhere in the line

Your F--150 has 2 flashers, emergency and turn signal. Both are mounted on the fuse block under the dash. The turn signal flasher is mounted on the front of the fuse panel, the emergency flasher is mounted on the rear of the fuse panel. so replace the turn signal flasher should solve the problem.
