Possible overheating problem for Acer Aspire mini L100

I suspect that my Acer mini aspire L100 has some issues with overheating and in so doing the motherboard has possibly gone bad.

It will power on at times and at others does not. The cooling fans run when it is turned on but sometimes there is no light indicating that the unit is on. I am interested to know if I will first have to replace the motherboard and then learn how to fix the overheating problem. Can you help me???

Thanx you all but at this point as I am no computer tech and feel that by me messing around in it I would actually do more damage that than good...Hence, I am going to allow the "real" techies locally run a full diagnostic on it and then take care of it that way if I can...If not I will go from there!!!

I have exactly the same symptoms; the Acer would take maybe 20-30 tries to start. So I removed the HDD, DVDROM drive, fan, heatsink, processor, RAM, and front panel to test the motherboard, and got the same symptoms. After reassembly, it won't start anymore, even after being switched on/off over 100 times.

I've discovered quite a few forums mentioning similar problems linked to overheating.

Now I'm trying to track down a new motherboard, and then to figure out a better cooling system. Speedfan helps, but then it runs like a vacuum cleaner!

Replace the thermal grease. My fan would get real loud and my system would just turn off. I replaced the thermal grease and it is quiet and doesn't shut off anymore. The thermal grease only costed 10 bucks.

I am not totally sure if this is the problem, but I would suggest that you may have a power supply issue or possibly it going out. If the computer runs fine, and then shuts down, than this can be more symptomatic to a overheating issue.

In my limited experience with overheat issues, the computer actually smelled like it was getting hot, and then it would slow down and then sometimes stop. Most computers have fail safe settings where they either alarm, or shut down or both when they overheat.

You asked me to clarify my issue with an Acer Aspire L100. My problem is, there is no video output from the system. It appears as if the onboard video has gone out. The unfortunate thing with this mini...

You do have 1 PCI slot in that system. So, you could purchase a video card and place in that slot. Since your video is on-board you'll need to disable in Control Panel - Device Manager. Good luck.

Acer Aspire L100 overheating

You could try a new cpu fan and heatsink. They are normally inexpensive. if this does not work make sure all the case fans are working and check to see if your ram is overheating

L100 overheating

In most of the cases the cooling radiator inside the computer is full of dust, clean it as well as the fanblades and things will improve.

Try to find a place nothing is blocking the inlet on the back and the outlets on top and in the front, open the part which covers the usb and other connections on the front.

Possible bad motherboard/overheating problem w/ Acer Aspire mini L100

You wont be able to replace the mother board as it is a propriatary Acer unit and is now obsolete.

In all honesty these machines are so poorly designed you would be better to write it off.

The 3 machines i had fail and managed to repair are all now dead again with different faults.

Where can I get a replacement motherboard for an Acer Aspire L-100 Mini Desktop

The board is proprietary and no similar size boards exist. Acer has such bad customer service (lied and mislead me for months, then demanded $500.00 just to look at it) that I have chosen to scrap the unit rather than try other possible sollutions (larger case with different board, cracked solder joint detection, etc.)

Acer Aspire Mini PC

Hi, you will be able to purchase a mini ATX format board by almost any manufacturer that will fit the acer case, the only problem you may hve is the PCI and Graphics cards will need to be low profile standards but these are also available if you are not planning on gaming then the on board graphics on most new boards will do all you ask of them.
