Question about SimpleTech 250GB USB2.0 7200 RPM External 250 GB IDE Hard Drive
Computer won't recognize drive. I was working in it yesterday, Today the computer won't recognize the drive. I get the emblem that shows I can remove it safely, but no drive on control panel. Product is the Simpletech Duo Pro Drive 1TB.
The simpletech 1tb drive's case has issues. I had the same problem. It actually quit while I was running a video off the drive. I replaced the case by removing the harddrive from the one it came in and installing it in another case and now it works again.
The first thing I would try is installing the drivers it came with, but failing that you will need to replace it's case.
It has 4 screws to remove, 2 under the silver warranty voiding tape and 2 visable on the bottom side. Remove them, then use a flat screwdrive to pop the case open (gently). Then remove the harddrive.
You will need a case with SATA data AND power cables for this to work.
