"No Format" Hiya everyone, Here's the deal, I have a Olympus Voice Recorder WS-100 and I've been having some problems with it. I lent it to a friend who seems to have done something I can't reverse. When plugged into a PC, the files she left on it are un-deletable as a warning comes up and tells me that the files are writed to the disc and can't be altered in anyway. Erk. Then when I turn on the WS, it flashes 'check' at me before finally settling on the warning of "No format". How do I fix this? Is it possible to get the files she left on my WS off, and be able to use it again in its intended purpose?
Some of the dat files may have been deleted... try to retrieve those files. also formatting the recorder will clear the recorder of all files so you can start out new

The recorder should be formatted only by using the internal FORMAT function found in the recorder's Menu. Using a computer to format the recorder may corrupt or delete system files needed to run the recorder, so formatting via the computer is not recommended.
Individual files can be deleted from the recorder while it is connected to a computer without negative effects.
Here is the link to the Olympus website where you can download the manual. In it there are steps to format the device which should clear all of the data and you should be able to start recording on it again.
hi again, I found an alternative solution which was not the requested of course but it works, I just find among the solution posted here how to format my recorder so I did it. thks anyway.
I reformat my olympus ws 100 on a mac and, erase everything, and the computer didnt want to recognized it. When turn on the display showed check and went off. When turn on without connecting to the computer and without the hold the display showed no format. If you use the foward button you can change the display to yes format and press play to select. That solve the problem.
if you were able to format the recorder thru the recorder.. it should be ready.. but if formatted through the computer, the files needed to operate the recorder are lost and you will need to send to repair to get the files put back on there
