Question about Consew 226R-1

Consew 226 breaking needles

The machine started breaking needles. After taking out the plates to see the actions of the hook and needle, I can see that the hook is making contact with the needle, even grabbing the needle, pulling it in and thus breaking the needle. Is this a problem with the timing ?

I posted an answer to this a couple days ago. If the hook's hitting the needle you need to move it away from the needle. There's a small screw in the bottom of the machine that holds the hook mechanism in place. You need to loosen the screw and gently tap the assembly away from the needle. The hook should just pick up the looped thread as the needle bar rises. You can go to www.consew.com and download a pdf file showing the parts of the machine, also an owners manual. You have to click on the 224 machine. The manual's the same for 224, 225, 226. Or you can click on the 226R-3 - that's the same, too.

Tilt the machine up. There's a screw holding the hook in. Loosen, remove base plates, lift the hook out and replace. Don't move any thing else or you'll have to reset timing.

I bought a consew 230 industrial machine, but when I try to sew on it the needle breaks. What do I need to check, the threading, needle or what?

make sure the needle is inserted correctly
check the needle clamp screw to make sure it's tight
the needle is to fine for the fabric being used
also make sure under the needle plate there is no lint
also in bobbin area
also check the tension

I recently moved and can't find the belt to my Consew 226. Having problems finding a replacement. Can you help!

Go to www.consew.com and download the parts list for the 224 Consew. It's the same as the 226 for parts. Or, go to www.diamondneedle.com. They have nearly every part you're likely to need. I got bobbin case screws, a hook, some metal reusable bobbins, and some needles, all at very reasonable prices.

Thread skips

Well, Hello Kim. Once the Needle for the machine is changed, there is a good possibility of the timing of the stitches being altered and hence the problem.
  •  Firstly, make sure that the needle is in correctly with the scarf of the needle towards the hook. Take the needle plate off and the presser foot off.
  • Turn the handwheel towards you until the needle is in the lowest position, and on the needle bar you will see two lines somewhere near where the needle bar enters the machine.
  • When the needle is in the lowest position, the top line of the two lines should be flush with the body of the machine.

Loose top stitch when in reverse 206 RB4 Consew

Do you know how to check the timing of your machine? It sounds like a timing problem to me. If you don't know how to check the timing:

take the side plate off, take the needle plate off, take the presser foot off, and put a new needle in the machine. Make sure that the needle is in the lowest position and look at the needle bar for the two timing lines. Locate the top line. Then, turn the handwheel toward you until the top line is where the bottom line was. At this point, the tip of the hook should be directly in the scarf of the needle.

Breaking thread

1. Make sure you are using the correct needle and thread for type of fabric and it is installed correctly. Make sure bobbin is threaded evenly. 2. Tread path - make sure the machine is correctly threaded. Then, with your finger, feel for burrs, nicks or roughness on any metal parts that contact the thread. Open the slide plate, remove the bobbin and inspect the bobbin case and hook. Remove the needle plate and examine the needle hole. Sand any rough areas with fine emery paper and blow away grit. If burrs or nicks remain on the needle, presser foot, needle plate or bobbin case, replace them with exact replacement parts, if they remain on the thread guides, take-up lever, bobbin hook or tension regulator, take the machine for professional service. 3. Loosen thread tension by adjusting tension dial. 4. Clean feed dog, bobbin case, and tension discs. Unplug the machine. Use a small, stiff brush to wipe dirt and lint off the machine head and the needle bar area. Raise the presser foot and the needle to the highest position, open slide plate and remove the bobbin and needle plate. brush away dirt and lint from the feed dogs and bobbin case and remove any tangled thread with your fingers. Use a soft cloth to clean between the tension disc on the tension regulator. 5. Also check tension on presser foot
