You can always try ebay, but I would advice to call EcoQuest directly at 1-800-989-2299. They can get you in contact with the closest dealer or repair center.

I just purchased a used Alpine Air XL-15 from ebay.no ozone spell

You probably have a burned out high voltage transformer. That's what produces the ozone. Helpful hint...........the high voltage transformer is also the one used in bug zappers

Fan motor making noise. Can I get a replacement fan?

If the "noise" is a fluttering sound (like fan blades are engaging housing or other internal structure), you need to trace this and clean or adjust it internally so it doesn't hit stuff. Cleaning it periodically (monthly) should be a given.

If the fan motor itself is grinding/losing a bearing, you will need to replace the motor. Note that there are different models/configurations for various models, you need the right one. I used to buy mine direct from EcoQuest, but they've changed owners in the last year, don't know if they still sell them as parts.

I think you can find motors on the Web, but you'll pay a premium price for single units, better to buy a used purifier off eBay/craigslist or find one at a garage sale, and cannibalize it.

I think I have one fan motor left in-stock (new); I can check to see if it's the right version if you want. I'd want $30 for it, plus shipping - you can likely do better than that if you're willing to hunt.

How do I clean the inside of my Alpine Air? Not

If it's an XL-15 or Classic, there are four screws through the bottom that hold the main chassis in-place. But first:

1) Unplug the unit, and remove the lint filter in back.

2) You'll need to remove the power switch (carefully pry out with a screwdriver or putty knife), disconnect the spade terminals (note which wires attach to which terminals), and remove the knobs for Fan and Ozone controls.

3) Remove the four screws. As the chassis slides out the back, you'll need to disconnect the spade terminals to the fan motor as well.

Clean thoroughly, make sure everything is re-assembled with good connections in reverse-order. Be particularly careful to leave any sensors clean and connected.

Alpine XL-15 fan has stopped working

Hello night light,

How you proceed is going to depend on how comfortable you are taking it apart.

Given it's age and purchase condition, warranty isn't an issue. You will either be able to dis-assemble the purifier and try taking the motor apart and reassembling, or you can find a replacement motor (I've seen some on the web, they start at ~$50).

Another possibility is that the fan pot (the rotary switch that the knob turns to adjust the fan speed) may be out. If you have a multi-meter, see if you can get a signal through (when it's all the way open). If not, try replacing that first. Parts are available onthe web, I can't advertise per FixYa's terms of use.

Hope this helps.

Fan motor changes speeds on its own.

The control component or the control circuit for the fan can be causing the speed variation, or the bearings on the thing can be wearing (or contaminated) with the same result. If you can make a test bench, look (feel with a test pad, really) for drive transistors that get hotter than they should or an inconstant power resistor or shunt.

Also make sure the safety interlock switch is properly closed when re-assembled. It's the springloaded switch inside the little notch in the chassis - the small tab on the lint screen should fit in and push that switch closed. If you do it wrong, the unit won't work. You should hear an audible click when the tab closes the switch.

Fan is not turning on

The fan motor is probably locked up. You can either put a little oil to free it up (usually a temporary fix) or better yet replace the fan motor.
