Question about InFocus ScreenPlay 4805 Multimedia Projector
I have had the InFocus IN72 Multimedia Projector for some time now, but I just got the PS3. However there seems to be a major problem then the picture is too bright. Fx. when I drive directly under a street lamp the picture becomes distorted, like when the TV has a bad reception. Is that a problem with my projector or is it just like that in general?
Thank you for your help!
I have the perfect example for you as to why this happens. It is a bit baffling at first but once you think about it it really does make a lot of sense.
IN72 is a great projector. They've bettered the technology with newer technology preventing previous complaints from consumers..which keep in mind its a home theater projector primarily. It's also a great price for what it is which is a huge thing for consumers over the years.
The thing with a home theater pj [pj=projctor] vs.a business one is that the home theater has a lower lumens and a higher contrast ratio to them. However, when you go on the business side it's the complete opposite. The idea on this is, for example:
Conference room: Some ambient light present. Maybe lights unable to dim? Want to show mostly text. Great, business projector is the best solution unless you have a demand for a special connection that only the home theater offers then in that case you might have to go with more of a plasma, or LCD panel instead?
Home/game room combo: Controlled lighting. Great. Has blinds for example. You want to watch it for occasional tv football games, or mostly movies since you would like to have movie nights at your own home vs. going out to a theater? Well then, a home theater projector is ultimately the best solution for this situation.
Why do these situations not want to combine?
Lumens=how bright the projector is
Contrast ration/ratio: the rating in which compares the black levels vs. lights in a pj
business: brighter for people to read text unless you are using it for video/color purposes.
Home: less brighter but have awesome blacks/whites which people WANT for home theater.
What I'm getting to with this....
When you have a home theater project you do not want any light but maybe a soft light in the room. The projector has this path of which it projects this bright image into your screen. Any lighting passing through that will break it up and make it less. The perfect way to imagine this is get a flash light. You can see it very well with the light off. Perfect, huh? You can see where you are going. Well, when you turn the light on it breaks up the lumens in the flashlight and you can not see it very well if at all.
So any light in your room will desperately influence the picture/image you will get off of the projector. That is why you are seeing the image become more distorted.
If you're going to use this under a well light situation either a super large plasma is ideal to maintain brightness otherwise a bit more expensive higher lumen pj to fix the solution a little bit. You can change all the settings you want, it might make it a bit more brighter which will run out the life of your lamp even quicklier, but there is only so much you can do but change the location of the setting/environment in which it projects.
I'm sure this is a lot of information. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thank you for your time and I wish you the best of luck.
