Good Day;

Yes, there is a TRICK of removal of centerboard. Remove back cover, after disconnecting the POWER CORD, remove 2/3 screws from black chassis frame, on back bottom, release wire restraints, look for two clips on front of black chassis. Can see easier if you remove speaker grill and small panel. Remove all golden type screws from PCB. Replace IC’s STK392-570 (2).

Good Luck, big IRISH.

You will need to locate the vertical IC. For some reason the location is prefixed with the letter q. Q in this case refers to a transistor. In any case I believe the location will be Q301. It has been a long time since I have repaired this TV. If you find the vertical IC (I think it may be the LA78XX series IC), you will need to resolder the 7 or 9 pin IC. The cross reference in the NTE electronic book may be the NTE 7158. If you can find this number in the NTE semi conductor book (will have picture and schematic info),you will know what to look for. In the case you resolder, do not short pins with excess solder. You will also need to replace any capacitors that are near the IC. There should be a 35 volt 2.2Mf cap at 105 degrees, this will be bad. Remember this may be all you have to do. Please check the capacitors in the immediate area of the IC. May be three more caps to check. In all, the location of the IC and capacitors will be in the center and a little closer to the rear of the main board. Inspect the rest of the board for bad grounds and resolder as necessary. Also check the small board behind the CRT, it will have areas to resolder. Hope this helps. If you feel you cannot do this, find a electronic enthusiast. Show them this note. This note will save you a few bucks. Knowlege is a great money saver. Convergence color is not converting

Replace convergence IC (location 8c01) which is a STK-393-110. You will need to order an after market market convergence IC (STK 393-110) I have had good luck with this IC. Next, check and replace all the 3.9 ohm 2 watt resistors, that are bad. You can check them with an ohm meter or visually inspect for burns or peels. Resolder the Convergence board, as by now there are many bad grounds (broken solder connections). Be sure to resolder the jumper jacks that connect the board to the next board too.(Under this board are solder traces that adhere to the jumper connections that will snap to the next board.) These would include jumper jacks PM, VU, and PF. Good luck and thanks for asking, show all hands of support!

The picture is sort of bent for a while now... it seems to get better when i smack it with my shoe.. or after it heats up a while... but everytime i hit with my shoe... picture is perfect again... thx

You have bad grounds on the convergence ICs. Smacking your TV with a shoe will only work so long. You will definitely need to resolder the signal board convergence IC pins, and save your shoe for other important things. You will need help with this, as this TV is too complicated to repair for the novice. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support.

I have an old box type tv.52inch screen.It has blue and yellow shadows around the images.once or twice I was able to hit the top of tv and clear it,but I have not been unable to clear it since...any...

You probley have bad solder conetions on the boards. Can you fix it maybe if youcan solder and are able to take the tv apart. If you do take it apart be sure to note where all the wires plug into the boards, then you need to look real close for bad conections on the solder side of the boards and resolder them, this all takes a lot of time and patinece. Also the convergance IC could be going out along with some restors that go along with the ICs.

This is a convergence problem and is usually either bad connections at the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder, you can fix this yourself. Locate the convergence ICs (large black Ics attached to a heat sink and marked STKxxx). Resolder the pins first. If that fails to resolve the problem replace the ICs.

Wt-42315 convergence problem

There are two possibilities here:

1) There are poor solder connections at the pins of the convergence ICs.

2) The heat sink compound has failed behind the ICs and they are failiing due to heat.

If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on the ICs first. These are large black ICs attached to a large heatsink and will be marked STKxxx. Also, remove the screws holding the ICs to the heatsink and see if the compound behind the ICs is still there. If not, add some.

Update this with your results.

TW65H80 Convergence IC

The convergence IC is an STK392-110. This is a large black IC attached to a heatsink. First try resoldering the pins on the IC. If that fails to resolve yuor problem. replace the IC. Be sure to use plenty of heatsink compound on the back of the new IC.
