Question about Nikon D200 Body Only Digital Camera
Nikon d200 refuses to format the CF card. I tried to format one of my CF cards on the PC but when I put it in the camera I get the message that it need to be formatted and when I do it, it's not showing me the remaining shots but only "For". It never happened before.
Is you camera plugged into you computer. If so, you cannot format the card from the camera, unless it is unplugged. This just happened to me (I was about to look for a bent pin). Unplugging solved the problem.

SOURCE: CF Error - Card cannot be used
Your problem sounds as if there's a bent pin in the CF card holder inside the camera. To fix it you will have to be very careful with a long blade fine screwdriver. Remember you'll have to straighten it in one go. If you bend them twice you can bet they'll break. A powerfull light to see the bottom where the pins are is needed too. If you're not willing to do the job yourself there's a guy on Ebay USA who straightens them. BMW

You can connect the camera to the computer via a USB cable and use the camera as the card reader. It will show up as a mass storage device. You should then be able to copy the images to your PC and format the card once recovered.

From your question it isn't clear whether or not you are formatting the card in the camera. Is this how you are formatting it? If not, you should try doing just that.
Do not use a computer to format the cards for your camera. In the future, use only the camera's own formatting and do it after every time you transfer your images to your computer. In case you don't know how to format the card with the camera, let me know and I will explain it.

Take a look inside your camera's CF card slot. I suspect that you may have a bent pin in there. If so, don't fret. Although professional repair would be more costly than the value of the camera, there is a very good chance that you can repair this yourself. Please see the following:
