If you had mentioned what type of laptop it could help but then the most known culprit of this is a virus. When it freezes does everything stop working like the mouse and all. if it is like that then the most common problem is the virus.

The screen freezes and then restarts

Sounds like your CPU may be overheating after playing games for a long time and shutting itself off to prevent damage.
Make sure all the laptops vents are clear

Gateway freeze randomly it just screen freeze

If you can, download Combofix, Vundofix, smitfraudfix, and malewarebytes.

Boot the computer in Safemode, and then run each program, one at a time of course.

If this doesn't fix the problem, then it will at least verify that it's not a virus related issue.

My compaq evo n1020v freezes,on restarting blank screen

First conclusion: This is not a software fixable problem. If your notebook is still in warranty, I suggest you to RMA it. No doubt somethings broken.

Laptop freezes

This can be caused by system file error or your CPU is over heated. I suggest you to have a system check first To check and repair system file error do the following
Right Click on the system disk (c: drive) then Properties > Tools > Errors checking Check now > Tick on "Automatically fix file system error
It will prompt you to schedule the check next time you restart. click YES then restart and let the system have the checking
If this doesnt fix please tell me
Best regards
