The Disk Tray will not open even when there is no disc inside - message reads BLOCKED. This seems to be an intermittent problem.

It sounds like some kind of child safety feature has been activated. If you have the instruction manual check how to turn this feature off, usually achieved by holding down some buttons for about 5 seconds.

DVD tray will not open on my Toshiba DVR620KU

Googled this for two days with no success! Finally, out of despiration I took the screwdriver to the top cover. (four screws in the back, and two screws on each side) Lifted up the rear section of the cover which the released the front for removal. The input pc board is right on top of the dvd tray so little could be seen, so I removed the screws and clips holding the pc board. Make sure that you you disconnect the power before doing this however. Once you have removed the three screws, (two of which have attached grounding clips) you will need to disconnect the HDMI cable which plugs into the back of the board if you had not already done so. Now carefully plug the unit back into ac power, and while holding the board in your hand careful not to allow it to touch anything, press the open button on the front of the unit, and as you move the board slightly while pressing the button, the tray mechanism will start to try to release. Press the button several times till the tray opens completely and stops. Now comes the tricky part: Unplug the AC power plug while the tray remains open. (Otherwise the tray may close again and you'll have to go through the wiggle routine again to get it to open) Once it is open, remove the DVD Disk if there is one in there. OK, so now if you have followed these instructions so far the tray is open and empty, and there is no power to the unit, you can begin reassembly. Put the three screws and two clips back into the PC board loosely at first till you have all three started, then proceed to tighten each one. Replug the cable into the back of the PC board and then replace the top cover and the screws following the same procedure. Plug the unit back into the AC receptacle, and turn the unit on, then press the open/close button, and the tray should open and close as normal. I think what caused the problem to begin with is that I had left a DVD disc in the player for an extended period of time in the start play mode, and it either jumbled the programming or damaged the disc. I have not tried to put the original disk back in the unit to find out! I want to use it for awhile first!

Tip

INITIALIZE THE DVD PLAYER -FIRMWARE UPDATE

INITIALIZE THE DVD PLAYER
FIRMWARE UPDATE
1. Turn the power on and remove the disc on the tray.
2. To put the DVD player into version up mode, press [9], [8], [7], [6], and [SEARCH MODE] buttons on the remote control unit in that order. The tray will open automatically.
The DVD player can also enter the version up mode with the tray open.
3. Load the disc for version up.
4. The DVD player enters the F/W version up mode automatically. If you enter the F/W for different models, "Disc Error" will appear on the screen, then the tray will open automatically.
5. After programming is finished, the tray opens automatically.
At this time, no button is available.
6. Remove the disc on the tray.

Philips DVP5140/37 disc tray won't open. Hello! I have tried unplugging from the power source and waiting 10 seconds as their website says to do. I hold down the stop button on the remote 5 seconds...

What could be done is to leave the set Switched ON for many hours even overnight and see how it can change if there is a possible fault on the motherboard, a change of value in electrolytic capacitors.
If there is no result then there is fault in the motherboard and you need to take consensus for an estimate.

My coby-514 dvd won't open up when the open/close

disc is stuck, remove cover screws and carefully remove the disc, do not force the unit, once the disc is out use the remote to close the unit, then use remote to open and use a different disc press play and hopefully it will work, try to avoid not using the remote for all functions, including open-close. do not push tray in manually.

3380 recorder cannot open tray says blocked

I had one just the same it appears to happen when the unit has been left on standby for a long while, on old players, and if you close the tray by pushing on the front instead of using the open button.

However, you can normally get the disc out if you press the eject key about 5- 6 times in quick succession. This is only a quick fix and the route of the problem lies inside. I think your player has a micro-switch that is on its way out. If you open the unit you can short this switch prevent the blocked message but this is a bit drastic.

Time for a service me thinks.

Pioneer BDP-f1FD Disc Tray Won't open

I fixed this on my unit from a tip on AVS Forum

Unit has "Power on" msg, follow these steps:

1) Hit power button for 5 -10 sec unitl unit shuts off
2) Press open / close button unit or remote first (do not hit power button first)
3) On the third try, the disc tray opened

I had James Bond Goldfinger in the player ( not sure if this had anything to do with it), I put another Blu Ray in and it loaded fine and is playing fine, hope this works for you
