Sound not playing

Tap the F10 or F11 key (depending on model) repeatedly at startup, before Windows starts loading and then follow the instuctions.

It sounds like a dll is currupt or missing.

I see that you reformatted you desktop and now that you have everything up you say that your desktop is not clear.

To fix your concern you will need to reinstall all the driver that your Desktop needs to e able to get a clear desktop you video card driver needs to be install and as well as the other driver for your desktop, this will help you fix your concern.
you will need to go to the HP website to get your compaq drivers specific for your machine by typing in the type of Compaq system you have in this link below.

The problem here is that you need to install an audio driver for your system. However, there is not one available for Windows XP. You can try using a driver for Windows 98, but there is no promise that this will work for you. If that is the case, your solution is to disable the onboard audio, and install a PCI audio card that is compatable with your Windows XP and your motherboard.

Try downloading the drivers from the Compaq website or do a search useing the model number and the word "driver".Reinstalling the drivers and the computer would detect the card.

Have you confirmed that none of them work? Do the USB ports show up in device manager (look for USB Root Hub entries).

If all else fails, you could always buy an internal PCI card that has USB ports on the backplane.

Does your digital camera have an SD card or other memory slot that you could simply plug into your desktop to transfer your pictures?
