    Hi dnx8,

Yeah ok I think that sounds good maybe if you get a chance could you detail the steps a little more as Im just getting into fixing stuff for myself and dont want to make the problem worse by doing something wrong.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing...Thanks again.

Hi,

you said that the usb ports are not working even if you updated the bios and chipset.what we can do is that we need to load default settings on your bios. If ever that wont work it simply means that your motherboard is having the problem. call dell tech support and they will be able to replace your motherboard if they found out that the problem is indeed your motherboard. Call us at dell. Thanks.

I see.. Troubleshoot your PC first before reinstalling XP. Go to BIOS first and enable USB emmulator. Then if you have a thumb drive or a flash drive, plug it in your USB port. You need to have the CD for us to go to recovery console. Go to recovery console and then try to check if your able to see the USB device plugged in to your system. If ever you see that the device is recognize and can be access outside windows or in DOS, that means that windows is having the problem and not the USB port. That is the time that we can say that we need to reinstall OS. got it? if you have any problems with the steps just post it and I will be very glad to assist you with it. OKEY? ^_^

I hate this message.
You can use a program like PC Wizard from CPUID that will tell you what all of you pc specs are.

From your specs you may not have usb 2 ports.
Device manager should also say what usb ports you have.

The best ports to use are the ports on the rear of the computer, front usb ports sometimes dont have as much power to drive external hard drives or high drain devices

I need to upgrade my usb port 1.1 to 2.0

The easiest way for you to do this is to get a USB 2.0 pci card and install it into the computer. Here is one that is available for $10

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124008&cm_re=usb_2.0_pci_card-_-15-124-008-_-Product

These are fairly easy to install. It does require you to open the computer case. Remember to unplug the computer from the electricity before starting and properly ground yourself before touching any components in the case(static electricity can damage them). You should use a grounding strap that hooks to your wrist and attatches to the case or touch the case each time before touching any components. Once the case is open you will need to locate an empty PCI slot. Then use a screwdriver to remove the metal "Blank" that is covering the opening at the back of the computer. Then you can insert the new card with the USB ports facing the back of the computer and use firm but gentle pressure to insert the card into the port. Once the card is fully seated secure it with the screw you removed from the blank. Then plug the computer back in and run any installation software that came with the card if required and that is it.

G'Day! I have a Transcend 2 GB USB stick. Whenever I connect it to my computer or any other computer, I get this error message ''THIS USB DEVICE CAN PERFORM FASTER IF YOU CONNNECT IT TO HIGH SPEED USB 2.0...

Yes. The problem is you don't have usb 2.0 ports on your motherboard. Its the second generation usb port. So if you want to upgrade you can buy additional hardware to upgrade this. But your motherboard has to be compatible with that additional peripheral too. As an example buses of your motherboard. So you have to check that also when you purchase. This is not a problem. The only thing is it will reduce the efficiency of your pen drive (Access time etc.). Other usb sticks you have may be usb 1.1 devices.
:)
If this is helpful to you, please rate this .
Thanks.

Usb not found aspire t160

Hi,

i,d check the bios setup. to ensure that USB devices are enabled.
Or that there are no conflicting devices:- My Computer/Control Panel/System/Device Manager.
Also some motherboards, have jumpers to set the USB ports on/off.
Try using a different port if you have 1 available, or purchase an individual PCI-Card with USB Ports On.

If you have a USB port on the back of computer plug it in there. Or use USB extension if it is uneasy for you to plug your pen drive from time to time. From there you can hook up your pen drive much easy.

I keep getting this error message. This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a hi-speed USB 2.0 port. For a list of available ports, click here.

it means you have the USB low speed connection. If you have plug in the device in front of the CPU it prompt it sometimes, try it at the back if it still wouldn't work out. Install the USB driver to 2.0 version or higher. thats it

I recently purchased a reconditioned computer. none of the USB ports are working. is there a way to enable them?

Sometimes USB can be enabled in BIOS set-up.
Most often it is the chipset that needs updating.

If USB support is enabled in BIOS, Then download eversesthome
run the program click on the <+> by motherboard, Click on chipset
click on NORTHBRIDGE, google chipset id for updates.
