Question about Hayward H Series Induced Draft Abg 100,000 Heater
When i turn pump on with the heater thermostat off it runs fine.when i turn the thermostat on heat it fires and starts heating.then it will start making noise like there is a rock in the system.it will quit making rock noise and then the heater will fire again....this happens over and over and over
The issue is a broken baffle in the system. there is a baffel that directs water into the heat exchanger and back out into the system. The welds that hold the baffel in place have broken off. It can be repaired if you take the unit to someone with a mig welder and have them re-weld it (muffler shop, mechanic?). there needs to be a weld on both sides. You can see the baffel if you remove the unit and look down the inlet and outlet tubes.

It sounds like you do not have enough water flow through the heater. If you do not have enough water flow though the heat exchanger you will damage the heat exchanger very quickly. I'm certain this is your problem.
