The C31:22 message indicates that one of the motors inside has failed to turn. This is a safety message and the unit will eject the tape to prevent the tape from getting damaged. Unfortunately, there is little that you can do other than get the unit into a service shop. The repair of this will require dis-assembly of the unit. I would suggest that you either get an estimate for the repair or send the unit to Sony using one of their fixed rate repair options.

I put in a tape and hit record. The eject symbol flashes and won't let me record or play back footage. Sometimes it will eject the tape.

Tape mechanism problems can be quite complicated. This will require disassembling the camera to repair the tape mechanism and can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Constant ejecting

This is already an issue with the hardware. There is a rubber bond inside the cassette that is no longer intact and needs to be replaced. Possible cause by repetition of single and old cassette tape and improper tape position.

Tape wont play or eject.

i just read about this c:31:22 problem while looking for a solution to another problem I am having. Someone suggested removing the battery, switching the camera to the "camera" setting, and then turn it off, put the batter back in and it should work. Good luck.

Cannot record or play

I had the same thing happen to my Sony DCR-TR7000 NTSC. I plugged in the AC power supply and it worked fine. So I fully recharged the battery, removed the Hi8MP cassette that was in it, put in a new one. The problem went away and when I reloaded the old cassette, the problem was gone. Don't know why, but this process seemed to fix it.
