Hi. For some unknown reason, the sound on my computer one day, showed as "disabled". I then uninstalled the Sound Blaster 24 bit and reinstalled it using the CD that came with my Dell Dimension 3000 computer. I then got the Windows and AOL sounds, but as soon as I tried to get Real Player to play the local FM station streaming it all went dead... so I uninstalled Real Player and installed Winamp. I then uninstalled Sound Blaster 24 and reinstalled it. That time I got the Windows closing sounds but no more sounds after that. I am 72 yrs old and pretty dumb about computer stuff!. Thanks for any advice ! Mike

Hello, if your sound card says "Null" it means that your computer isn't seeing the drivers for the card. Here's what to do. First, find the exact model of your Dell. Write this down. Now go to dells site and look for "Sound" drivers. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen Download the driver and run it. This should install the newest drivers for your sound card. Turn off the computer and re start it. That should be it. If this doesn't work your sound card may be bad. Hope this helps.
go to www.dell.com and go to support and enter your service tag number and it will take you right to your Product and select driver downloads look and find your sound card and install ALL the drivers and re boot after they have all been unzipped and installed and when the computer comes on you should have sound.
you will need to go into system maintenance/loacte sound and insure that the motherboard has sent the request to reflect your sound card is there. if no sound card is listed you will need to do a add/remove hardware search. see computer/right click on properties and then device manager, then go to sound and see if all device drivers are there.

Your laptop should have a sound card built into the board. To make sure, check for three round color coded holes anywhere along the edge of your laptop frame and ports. The Sound output is usually green. The sound in is blue and the mic in is red. If you plug in speakers n the green and don't here music, then check to see your SOUND DRIVERS are installed. If they are not no sound will play. The check for Sound drivers, right-click My Computer, then chose HARDWARE and let it list the components. Any one with a yellow mark needs drivers.
