To enable or disable registry editing, use the following key:
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System  Value Name: DisableRegistryTools  Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)   Data: (0 = enable regedit, 1 = disable regedit)

To enable it, since you can not enter registry editor once it is disable, create a file which contain the following lines, save it to something .reg. Apply by double clicking the file.
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] "DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000000

Regedit - to disable this file from running, delete it. if you want to turn off the registry, boot computer into safe mode (tapping f8 key while booting). if you need to manually uninstall a program, do an F3 search in the registry for the program name as a search string. there can be as many as 500 registry entries for the program... if you adopt the f3, delete, enter, f3, delete, enter, you may be able to uninstall the program's registry entry in as little as 15 minute to 1 hour... best of luck, I am not responsible if you delete a wrong value and crash your computer .... heheheeheheh.

Disable num lock

Deskop or Laptop seems to be a contradiction >????

The num lock (number or numeric lock) can become annoying if you tend to accidentally hit the num lock key on your laptop and turn it on or off.
Disabling the num lock completely involves editing the system registry.
Before performing such edits, always save and back up your computer information in case you make a mistake, as the system registry controls many aspects of your computer's operation.
Once you have disabled the num lock on your laptop, you must edit the system registry again to re-enable that function.

Close all windows and programs that are running on your computer.
Press the "Windows" key and the "R" key simultaneously to open the "Run" dialog box.

Type "regedit" without the quotation marks, then press "Enter."
Click the "+" symbol next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then select the "+" symbol next to "Control Panel."
Click on "Keyboard."
Double-click "IntitialKeyboardIndicators."
Enter "0" (the number zero) in the "Value Data" field to disable the num lock after logon, or enter "1" (the number one) to disable the num lock entirely.
Click "OK," then close the registry by clicking the "X" in the upper right corner of the registry window.
Restart your computer.
To re-enable num lock, follow the same process, but change the "Value Data" to "2."

Tip

How to enable the NUM LOCK key for the logon screen

The status of the NUM LOCK key is specific for each user, and it is disabled by default. If you want the NUM LOCK key enabled for use before a user presses CTRL+ALT+DEL to log on (the logon desktop), you need to edit the registry. To enable NUM LOCK for the Logon desktop (shown when no user is logged on), use the steps below:
  • Click Start, Run and type regedit.exe
  • Navigate to the following location:
HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard
  • Double-click the value InitialKeyboardIndicators
  • Set the value-data from 0 to 2
  • Close Regedit
To undo the above, change the InitialKeyboardIndicators value back to 0

Hii,, i hv made some folders hidden ..and now when i am trying to unhide i m not able to find folder options.. my operating system is vista home basic.. when i am typing regedit in search option it is...

Here are the some steps you can do to enable your folder option .

To enable REGISTRY EDITING

Type gpedit.msc in RUN dialog box and goto: User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System
in right-side pane, set "Prevent access to Registry editing tools" to either Not Configured or Disabled.

Type regedit in RUN dialog box and press Enter. it'll open Registry Editor, now go to following keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Explorer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Explorer
In right-side pane, check whether a DWORD value named NoFolderOptions exists or not? If it exists, delete it.

2. If you don't want to do any registry editing and are not familiar with editing the registry, then you can simply download following file, extract it and then run the .REG file:

How to activate task manager on my pc

It can be done easily by editing the registry. I will try to explain in detail. Follow these steps

1. Check that your PC is virus free. Install Antivirus program if required.
2. Regisry is enabled. Goto run command from start menu OR Press Win key+R and type 'regedit'. It would show up registry.
3. If registry is enabled you can edit it.
4. Open notepad and paste the following four lines

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableTaskMgr"=dword:00000000
"DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000000

5. TYPE the file name ENABLETASKMANAGER.REG
6. Choose 'all files' option from 'Save as type'
7. Now you should have a registry editing patch. Please note that its extension is .reg
8. Double click the patch to add it to registry and task manager would be enabled.
9. Alternatively, you can download PROCESS EXPLORER, whichis a replacement of task manager from internet. It works even if the taskmanager is disabled.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any further clarification/ help

My task manager doesn't work anymore can u help me fix this?

Try this:

If Task Manager has been disabled, you can re-enable it if you have administrator privileges on the computer.
To enable Task Manager on a computer running Windows Vista Home Basic or Windows Vista Home Premium This procedure requires you to edit the registry. An incorrect change to your computer's registry could render your computer inoperable. We strongly recommend that you back up the registry before making any changes. For more information, see Back up the registry.
  1. Open the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, typing regedit into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER. 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b.png If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. Navigate to the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
  3. Double-click System, double-click DisableTaskMgr, change Value data to 0, and then click OK.
To enable task Manager on a computer running other editions of Windows Vista
  1. Click the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, type gpedit.msc in the search box, and then press ENTER.
  2. Under User Configuration, double-click Administrative Templates.
  3. Double-click System, and then click Crtl+Alt+Del Options.
  4. Double-click Remove Task Manager, click Disabled, and then click OK.
or you're computer might be infected by a virus, if you're not the one who disabled the task manager.

Try to scan your computer also.

Hi,
to make sure you´re virus free try another antivirus.
Go to:
http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/
and run the online scanner ( works with Internet Explorer only, I think ). It is pretty accurate and might find something that Avast missed.

There is 2 ways to do this.

My task manger is disabled by the administrator

For Windows XP Home Edition use "The registry edit & For Windows XP Professional you still use the option I had suggested which is:

• Click Start
• Click Run
• Enter gpedit.msc in the Open box and click OK
• In the Group Policy settings window
o Select User Configuration
o Select Administrative Templates
o Select System
o Select Ctrl+Alt+Delete options
o Select Remove Task Manager
o Double-click the Remove Task Manager option

I hope this Info has helped you.

or:
Click Start -> Run. Type in "regedit" (no quotes) and hit Enter.

Search for HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ System.

Look for: DisableTaskMgr. Click on REG_DWORD. Value: 1=Enable this key (disables TaskManager); Value: 0=Disable (actually enables TaskManager)

Close RegEdit

Reboot your machine.
