If the fan on the backside is not spinning it could be a bad fan-motor. When the fan runs the compressor should run as well. If the compressor is not running the fan should not be running either, so you should unplug it for about an hour, then plug it back in and see if the compressor unit starts up. If it doesn't, it is probably something wrong in the control circuit for the compressor. It could be the thermostat (check that it is set correctly). If the compressor starts up but the fan does not run, it is most likely a bad fan motor or bad wire leading to the fan motor.

In general, the compressor is controlled by a thermostat that is usually located in the conditioned space. It cycles the compressor on and off based on the sensed temperature and the setting that it is adjusted to.
So, let's talk in general refrigeration terms. Where the compressor is located, is there a fan? If so, is it running? That fan is usually the condenser fan and is wired to come on anytime the compressor is supposed to be running. If the fan is running and the compressor is not, then there is an issue with the compressor. If the fan is not running and the compressor is not running, then there is an issue with either power or the thermostat. If the compressor is running and the fan is not, then there is an issue with the fan.

The fan is controlled by the by the electronic control located in the back by the compressor.

If the fan is running all the time there is something we need to determine before replacing parts.

Is the compressor also running all the time? The inside fan should run at the same time as the compressor, if they are both running then check and clean the coils behind the freezer. If they are clean and both running then check the door seal to make sure it is not broken or torn. If all these are okay then the compressor is just wearing out and getting inefficient.

If the compressor is not running and the inside fan is running the problem is within the control board down by the compressor, this is a replace only component and runs about $180.00

The fans are controlled with a clixon that has a cut in at 5 degrees, and cut out at 20 degrees. If the unit is running and the fans are not comng on then I would have to say you are out of freon. But your condensor fan could be running and the compressor NOT be running which could be a problem with your compressor. Find out if your compressor is running by taking an amp draw. If compressor IS running then you are low on freon. If the compressor is running and your evaporator coil is cold and your fans AREN'T coming on then your clixon is bad.

You just answered your question. If no fan is running then the compressor will overheat and the compressor goes off on overload. Do you have the evaporator fan running? If yes then replace the condensor fan. Both fans will run at the same time. If the evap fan is not running then the unit must be in defrost. Since its a hotgas defrost the compressor will run.

If you are talking about the freezer fan motor, it should be running if the compressor is running.
if the compressor runs without the fan running the compressor will overheat and become damaged.
The mullion heater in the door divider is not affected by the compressor.

This sounds like it is caused by either a high pressure reset. Or the compressor is tripping a high temperature limit internally. One thing you may be able to do is to hose off the coil surface with a garden hose on the outside (condensing unit) this would allow the operating pressure to drop if it is dirty.

genarrly the fan motor runs in conjunction with the compressor assy, ifhte compressors not runnig you wont get hte fan to run either. is the compressor running??? if so check the wiring between the 2 components
