It was asleep overnight. In the morning, I opened it and nothing. The screen was black and the LED on the front was on. I forced shut down by holding power button, then when I push the button again to turn it on, there is a flash on the screen, the optical drive makes it's usual noise, then nothing. No chime. The screen stays black. I called Apple and I did all of the "easy" things: reset power adapter, PRAM, different outlet, etc. Please help! What could the problem be??

Same type of problem here.  I spoke with Apple last night and wasn't able to fix the problem.  The sleep light is illuminated but the screen is black.  The computer is not even a month old...

    Hi there
    Just a few questions first.
So the mac was working until you removed the internet connection

When you are plugged into the mains is there a green light at the connector?

When you press the start up button do you get any 'start up chimes' noise from the mac?

WHat happens when you hold the start up button down?

I have the same problem too and I know it's not the lamp that died because I took out the logic board and used it on another LCD. I'm guessing it the CPU. oh, one thing to try...try to insert a CD or DVD in it or press - command ,option,P, R (if u have a CD in there and can't get it out, try to hold the mouse button down for 5-10sec then the CD or dvd will eject.

Is there a chance that the screen of the lamp died or is it brand new

Cord does not charge the mac

Is the battery removable if it is then turn off your mac, take out the battery, turn on the mac with power cord connected.
Wait 2 mins then refit battery, this might work, as it works for me.

Let me know if any good, please

The Western Digital hard drive My Book Elite does not show up on the computer screen when plugged in to the Mac computer. It has the blinking light that shows that it is thinking, and everything else...

hello

i have the same issue, exact same unit MY BOOK ELITE WD 500G ..
FYI: if this doesnt work, it is a power module (inside the black box, MY BOOK ELITE) needs to be replaced.

UNPLUG both cables from MY BOOK ELITE WD - restart your computer

- with respect to the MY BOOK ELITE WD , make sure the power cord is plugged into AC outlet wall only, and the other end of the USB into computer only -- but disconnect both from the MY BOOK WD ELITE and leave unplugged for 20 minutes .

after 20 minutes have elapsed, plug the USB cable only for 1 minute , into MY BOOK ELITE WD. Then plug the power cord into the MY BOOK WD Elite. see if it works

if this doesn't work, let the drive sit for 24-48 hours.. then repeat above instructions -- this is how i got mine to work again. FYI: To avoid this issue, i just leave the unit plugged in , while computer is running

BUT -- be aware... i use UPS (Uninterruptable power supply) to avoid power failures throughout the house. So , i suggest , if you want to leave the computer running, use a power supply to run the computer if the AC power fails..

please issue 4 thumbs up

I think you mean adding email address to your account (importing email address), If you've set up the account properly, then there's not much difficultly, just follow the instructions below 1. Open the Address Book application. 2. Choose Import from the File menu. 3. Navigate to the file that you exported from your previous application and select it from the list of files. Tip: if you cannot select the file, the 4. Open button will not pulsate. This may indicate that the file is not in a format that Address Book can read. 5. Click Open. Your addresses (contacts) are now available for use in Address Book and all Mac OS X applications that work with Address Book.
On the other hand if you are importing addresses from previous version, the procedure is little different. Do let me know if you can't do with this. Good luck
