Question about GE GSL25JFR Brushed Steel Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My GE Refrigerator Clicks for hours but will not start.

My GE side by side Refrigerator began clicking durning the month of September. A few clicks at first that later went on for hours. Last week it

begin clicking about 11:00PM and was still clicking at 08:00AM the next

morning. The refrigerator side was at room temparture and food in the freezer side was defrosting.

What is the problem? Starter Relay,Dampers, Thermostats or is this frigerator program to quite after one year of service. Place in use 03/29/06.

Also the water dispenser died months ago but still made ice! (wouldn't dispense though). Last week I noticed a clicking but would still work. Now it just clicks and the compressor never starts. Other searches on the web indicate a bad main board. I think I will try a new main board - hoping to correct the water dispenser as well.

I had the exact same problem. It is caused by a power surge that takes out the control board. In the first round of these cards, GE did not protect them well enough. To their credit, they have revamped them in a newer version. Only time will tell if it works well. I noticed 2 caps on the board that got swelled from "seeing" high voltage as well as 2 IC chips that little "dimples" from where the internal transistors burned up.

in simple terms, replace the card. it is easy and costs about $125. Everything will start to work.

I am going to put a surge protector on my refrigerator though for added protection.

This will also solve the water dispense issue as well as the ice dispension.

    in summary,

    1) water only rarely dispenses then increases to almost never dispense. Lights dim when trying then resume after a few seconds. Ice maker continues to make ice will absolutely no problem.

    2) much later, you start to hear a series of clicks as the refrigerator starts to call for cold air. Eventually it does start but degrades over about a week till it fails completely and just clicks.

    3) replace main board and all is well.

applies to GE GSL25JFRJBS and series.

Clicking you describe sounds like a bad motherboard. Water dispenser issues have been result of frozen water in the tubing in the bottom of the FF area, which you should not have at the moment, so if it is not dispensing water now I'd check the water valve coil. (there are two coils on the inlet valve, one for the icemaker and one for the water dispenser.)

Most likely it has bad relay on the compressor.  I would replace the relay and overload first and see what you get.  If the compressor won't start after replacing the relay and overload then the compressor is locked up and that is covered by a 5 yr sealed system warranty.  Would appreciate a solved rating for expert advice.

For the clicking if the fridge has been off for at least 5 min. and clicks when it tries to start then it may be the start relay on the compressor . If it does not stay off for at least 5 min then it may be the control which may also be why your display is not working.

GSS201EPH WW Refrigerator does not run.

These symptoms indicate that the main control board is bad . The compressor relay ( one of the black boxes ) is bad . Have to replace the complete board . Without the model number , can't give you the part number . Take the model number with you when you go to get the part ( or order the part ).

Compressor relay clicks at times

It will click each time the comrpesssor starts which is normal. Clicking more means it's haveing a harder time starting the compressor which could mean the compressor is starting to wear out. I would just wait for it to go out. Could be months or years.

Side by side stopped working but clicling noises every second two.

Ok the motherboard is malfunctioning. Ive observed this exact problem before. Replace the board and all will be normal again. If you keep lettig it click and click it may finally kill that relay that you descibed to me or even worse the compressor itself.
