Self cleaning caused interior glass to crack

First time I used the self cleaning option on the oven. Started with the lower unit. Noticed the glass started to look like honeycomb on the inside. When the oven was cool enough to open, I saw how badly it was cracked. Do I need a new oven or new glass? The stove is 4 1/2 years old.

Hi there,

this is called thermal breakage. basically, when the mfg. makes the glass, they either don't cook it long enough or let it harden long enough during manufacturing. remember, the glass is supposed to withstand over 1200 degrees, which is temperature during self cleaning. have a technician replace the door glass, as warranty should cover this.

thanks

If there is power to the unit (lights turn on) I would check the fuses and switches especially the one for door lock mechanism if you noticed a glitch. But a lot of times if you experiences problems after running a self-cleaning function, including locked door issue, the solution could be as simple as resetting a switch and no actual replacement parts needed. Directions on how to use the self-cleaning feature of my Kenmore Ultra Bake Self Cleaning Super Capacity oven

First take out the racks (unless they are coated with the same porcelan coating as the oven interior). Press the Clean or Self-Clean button. Press up or down arrow key - 3:30 will show in display which represent time in hours and minutes. You can press the up arrow key for more time, or the down arrow key for less time, but usually the default time is good. Then just press Start. The door will lock and the oven will turn on. In 3 1/2 hours the oven will turn off, but the door won't unlock for another hour.

the glass in the ovens should not crack when self clean is used. it could be that there was a minut crack in the glass or a build up of moisture in between to door windows that expanded at the extra heat but this should be brought up with the manufacturer for replacement.

I hope this was useful.

Used self cleaning feature of my electric Maytag Gemini stove. Lower oven glass window in door basiciall cracked into thousnads of small pieces. What did I do wrong and how do I get the stove fixed?

You didn't necessarily do anything wrong. The glass may have been banged at some point and weakened it. The only thing you can do is call an appliance parts store with your model and serial numbers and get them to look up the price and availabilty of the lower oven, inner glass. If you can get the door off the range, and it should come off, it may be more reasonable for you to take the door into the shop where you ordered the glass and get them to put it in for you.

Inside the oven door there are some stains from liquid spill that went through the vent, how can I clean it.

If your oven is self-cleaning, consult the owner's manual for instructions on how to use this feature. The self-cleaning feature works by heating the interior of the oven to a temperature so hot that it incinerates the residue inside the oven. Normally, it is not a good idea to clean the interior of a self-cleaning oven with a spray cleaner; however, refer to your owner's manual or contact the manufacturer of your oven for further information.

To clean a non-self-cleaning oven, use one of the many oven cleaners that are available at grocery and hardware stores.

Frigidiare electric range time bake and self cleaning

Not sure what brand of oven this is but there should be a tech sheet on the back of the oven or it may tell you in the owners manual what those codes mean. Might be a faulty oven temp. sensor for faulty wiring/connection to that sensor. If f3 means sensor on your unit and the wiring is ok then replace the sensor.
