How do i restart Gateway e1 vision amd fully clearing everything from the login and f8 and f11 will not work

The way to restore Gateways is to hold down the ALT Key and repeatedly hitting f10 then it should bring you to a boot sequence screen then choose the HDD and then hold down ALT and repeatedly hit f10 again.
That should prompt the restore feature for gateway.
with a "Restore from factory default" option. This loads the system partition (C:) from the recovery partition (hidden). It does wipe every thing out on the C: drive to be like it was when new.
If that doesn't work the only way to do it is to boot into windows and run the eRecovery program

I forgot the administrator password for my gateway desktop. Any ideas?

If you really forgot your password, try writing down all passwords you used last year, and try them one by one. If you can't find it, nobody can.
The last option, is resetting the computer and restoring the programs, but you will lose all data and all programs installed. You have to start from scratch.

When there were times you want to backup. you could try connect the hard drive to a connector, using it like an external hard drive, but most operating systems encrypt the data, so I don't think you can recover much data that way. The connector could be the one form this link, but there must be cheaper ones.

Computer suddenly shut down and won't restart

This type of shutdown problem occurs mainly due to following few reasons, 1) SMPS problem 2) RAM failure 3) Over heated mother board chip(s) or seldom over heated CPU 4) Virus or worm problem or OS problem. 5) Over heated power cords
Do the following steps one by one (to detect the exact source of problem) First replace the CMOS battery, change SMPS, check power cord, run the PC directly (without UPS), remove the data cable from hdd. if it runs well then set the data cable with hdd, if it does not work then definitely there is mother board/cpu problem. And if it creates same problem after fitting the data cable - change the hdd or format hdd and reinstall os. your problem would be solved.

500XL will not shutdown properly!

Firstly you need to get into the bios by pressing f2 or Del on start up and when in the bios look in the advanced menu for ACPI and meke sure that it is enabled, this allows the motherboard to recognise the auto shutdown through windows, then save settings and exit for a re boot. Next click start>control panel>power options and check in the power schemes and other tabs, to make sure that the settings are correct for shutting the system down.
