No, the stereo has an ON/OFF switch. If you connect the power for the stereo on the ignition side of the fuse box when you turn off the ignition switch/key hen power will be automatically cut off to the stereo even if you leave the switch on at the stereo.
Your ford dealer visit may not be as expensive as you think, you need 2 pats keys and have them perform an ignition key code erase then they should be able to program your 2 new keys, The Ford Dealer I work at only charges 0.5hrs or approx $50.00 dollars Canadian.
Use a test light and tap into the acc power wire, this is the wire with power when the key is on , then when key is off the power is off this way the amp turns on and off with the key, and it wont kill your battery when ignition is off, just use test light to test wires. hope this helps, note the wire is black and pink just test to make sure.
we have 1998 ford f15 we replaced the ignition and it still wont start the truck,, the key turns over now and the radio and everything comes on but it wont start, what is wrong???
How long for? if it does not go out then you have an ignition fault basically when you turn the key all the way back it is not returning the switch inside the ignition back to off, try and spray some wd40 through the ignition lock first and work it on and off with the key, if that wont work then have a closer inspection , at worst you may need a new ignition switch.
just replace the ignition it is only about 25 dollars or so and it should not have a pats system for that year you must have the key to get the ignition out though do you have another key ... the key must be turned to get it out and back in you can drill the lock and then turn it so you can remove it but if you are not comfortable doing this call a locksmith.. much cheaper than a dealer
****fixed it , removed audio fuses 1 was damaged
