When I open HP Solution Center I get an error message "No HP devices have been detected." However, my USB cable is connected and I can print from my applications without any problem. So, why can't the HP driver software detect my printer?

Re: HP Solution Center cannot detect my 6110 AIO
Hello Buzzland, this error usually occurs when the HP Digital Imaging monitor is not running in the background. HP digital Imaging monitor is a service that invokes the other services when required. If this service is not running, you may not be able to open the HP Solution Center.
You can usually find the icon of HP Digital Imaging Monitor in the systray. To check if the HP Digital Imaging Monitor service is running, open the task manager , and in the process tab, search for the file called "HPQTRA08.exe" . If it is not present , navigate to C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\Bin\ (assuming that your system drive is c: and the folder maybe HP or Hewlett Packard) and search for an application file named hpqtra08.exe. and double click it. The application will start running in the background. Sometimes it may also happen that you have unchecked some startup programs from the micosoft system configuration utility (msconfig) and this file (hpqtra08.exe) is also included in them. If so, you must check the application to run it on startup. Now , restart the system and open the HP Solution center. If it works, fine. If it does not work out , open "services.msc" from the command prompt and search for the service called "HPZPML" . If it is found, make sure it is started. (Set startup type = automatically). Restart the system and try opening the solution center. Still if the issue persists uninstall the complete entire software and reinstall it. This will probably work in case all of ther others fail.

This issue is common with every HP scanning software used with Windows OS which have a firewall running.
If you would try the following:
- check the task bar if HP digital imaging monitor is up and running
- if not, go to C:\program files\hp\digital imaging\bin and double click the file HPQTRA08.EXE
- now the monitor should run
- if not, pls reinstall the software (*)
- if yes, pls try to open HP solution center
- if solution center starts, pls try to scan or to fax
- if successful, no other steps are required
- if faxing is not successful, check in the printer folder, if you find a HP <device name> series fax entry
- if you cannot find it, unplug the printer and delete the entries in both the printer folder and scanner folder
- also run the software CD and start the uninstall_l1.bat and uninstall_l2.bat in the util\CCC on the CD (if 64 bit OS, the run the 64 bit versions)
- restart the PC with the loaded CD
- replug the printer and let it be reinstalled
(*) For a clean reinstall it is recommended to contact HP support. They know the best way to leave a clean system on the PC.

HP PSC, Officejet, and Photosmart All-in-Ones - The Error Message 'No HP Devices Detected' Occurs When Opening HP Solution Center (c00762521)
Issue When opening HP Solution Center, a message appears that states "No HP Devices Detected ".
Solution one: Check connections and status
Check to make sure that the device cables are connected securely at each end.
Make sure the device is turned on and not in an error state. If unsure, turn the unit off and then back on again.
Try to access the device through Solution Center again.
If the device is still not detected, proceed to Solution two.
Solution two: Check that there is a printer icon in the printer folder
Click Start and then Settings or Control Panel .
Click Printers or Printers and Faxes .
Make sure there is an icon for the printer you are trying to use.
If there is no icon and you are connecting via a USB cable, disconnect the cable, and restart the computer. Reinsert the HP software CD and choose Add a device . Connect the unit when prompted by the installer.
If there is no icon and it is a wireless connection, run the wireless setup wizard as outlined in the product setup guide, then reinsert the CD and choose Add a device .
If there is no icon and it is an Ethernet connection, reinsert the CD and choose Add a device .
Solution three: Check that the Digital Imaging Monitor is running
NOTE: If you chose a custom install and did not select HP Digital Imaging Device Functions, the Digital Imaging Monitor will not be installed. Proceed to Solution five.
Press the CTRL , ALT , and Delete keys at the same time to open the Task Manager.
Look to see if HPQTRA08 and HPQSTE08 are running.
If they are not running, restart the computer and then try again.
If they are still not showing in the list, proceed to Solution four.
Solution four: Check that the HPZPML driver is running
In Windows XP and 2000, click Start , Control Panel , Administrative Services , and then click the Services Icon . Scroll through the list looking for HPZPML to make sure it is set to automatic and that it is running.
In Windows 98/ME, open the Task Manager by pressing CTRL , ALT , and then Delete . The file HPZIPM should be listed.
If the HPZML or HPZIM file are not available, restart the computer. If they still do not show up, proceed to Solution five.
Solution five: Uninstall and reinstall the software
Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. The software installer should automatically start.
If the software installer does not automatically start, complete the following steps:
Click Start and then Run .
On the Open line, type D:\SETUP , where D is the letter of the CD-ROM drive.
Click OK .
Click Uninstall on the installer screen. If Uninstall is not an option, the software installation was incomplete. Click Install .
Follow the onscreen instructions until the printer software is completely installed.
CauseThere are several reasons this can happen. The device was not connected during the installation of the software, there is no printer icon in the printer folder, the Digital Imaging Monitor is not running, or the HP service PML driver is not running.
