Question about Garmin GPS

1 Answer

My garmin is stuck to the windshield & i can not get it off. i park in the garage & i would say it is in the garage half of the day. i can't get it off & neither could my neighbor or son. i can remember driving along and the garmin would fall off while i was using it. never thought i would not be able to get it off. when i park, often i will cover the Garmin with something hoping it will not be noticed & someone break in & steal it. I am not usually out late but it seems cars are often broken into to get the GPS. can you me how to handle this problem? Thanks...

Try this..first off..remove the GPS from the holder..then use a small screw driver of knife to lift an edge of the suction cup up and away from the wind shield..then try spraying a window cleaner like windex around the suction cup while prying the edge up with that kinife or screwdriver...once the windex gets behind the cup..it should slide a bit and break the suction seal...Hope that helps you..

Hey

How old is the garmin? The battery is probably going bad and would need to be replaced.

Tip

STOP THIEVES by reprogramming your "home" into your GPS

Breaking news in the ongoing battle against crime involves your GPS and your garage door opener. Many thieves are now breaking into cars and stealing both the GPS and the garage door remote. Their motive: turn on the GPS and push the "home" feature. The GPS will then lead the thief to your home where the garage door opener will provide access to your garage and if it is attached, to your home.

THE FIX: Reprogram your GPS so that "HOME" takes you to a restaurant near your home or to a police station near your home. At least that way, the thief will not know where you live.

Many cars are broken into these days because owners are not aware of how desperate many thieves have become. The prize is often the GPS which sells on the street for $100.00 or more. Do not leave your GPS in sight when you park your car, do not use a windshield mount which leaves a tell-tale ring on your windshield, and do not use a plastic disk stuck to your dash [all signals to a thief that there is a GPS hidden somewhere in the vehicle]. The best idea is to keep your GPS and your garage door remote both locked up in your trunk whenever you park your car. Regards, Joe

My garmin nuvi 1450 repeatedly says "acquiring satellites". How do I fix this?

Take it into an open area such as a parking lot or field, it will soon acquire the satellites and they will stay acquire unless you go into a parking garage.

How and where do you mount the Garmin nuvi 1300 GPS

I use the suction cup holder and place it to the lower middle right of windshield, I find it easy to see and not in the way of parking the car when you need to see the front of car when turning or parking.... I put it lower so the wires dont hang all over the place

Today I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 1300 GPS system. In unpacking the unit I was able to identify the use of all parts except a small disc that was white on one side & black on the other. The black side...

the disc your talking about, is used to help secure the suction mount when the mount wont secure on its own, like to the dashboard of your car and in some instances even the windshield....

i put mine one the windshield but i do not need the disc for my truck, but not all cars or truck work without it.

the disc will help insure the unit wont fall from where its mounted but like i said, i dont use the disc unless needed.

btw, thats a nice unit you bought.

My Garmin Nuvi 350 does not aquire sattalites?

Make sure it is in its mount. The antenna is in the mount and needs to be connected tight also make sure You have a view of the sky and not parked in a garage that blocks the signal

Garmin 660 reads as acquiring satellite and stays stuck in this screen. Reset default settings, moved around outside to get the signal.

satellite receivers seem to be doing this on cloudy days also bad line of sight to the sky. say the unit is being blocked from seeing out the window properly or is in to far from the windshield it will not have a direct line of sight with the sky. thus no signal acquisition.

these units rely on signal triangulation to track your Xiamath location it takes 4 satellites to give your exact or near exact coordinates consider that your line of sight is not the problem then is say theirs a issue with eh unit and it may be defective. but try holding it outside the car a second like out the window and see if it picks Anny satellite up. if so then line of sight is probably the issue here. good luck and thanks for using fixya service.

Plastic pholder for my Garmin 255W will not stick to windshield

The glass and attachment suction cup should be clean and free of oils, dust hair etc. Try cleaning both surfaces. If this doesn't workyou can order a new holder from Garmin.
