Toshiba TV Model 32JW9UA. The Red component of the 3 primary colours has just started to disappear for extended periods, intermittently. If I set the Colour slider and the Tint slider on the TV menu to zero the picture grey tones look okay and the picture is clear. However, the on-screen menu colours are missing the Red component. This situation is consistant whether using composite, component or normal antenna input. All the external cable connections appear good and tight.

    Thanks for the suggestion, but this TV does not have a convergence adjustmenton the user menu as far as I can see. Or do you mean the Geomagnetic adjustment? If so this only adjusts the alighment of the picture. Or do you mean the Service menu?

    Thank you to welcome jee. How would I identify the "Colour Processor" area?

  • toonstjc Sep 27, 2008

    I have spent a couple of hours checking the soldering of the color proccessing board and other areas plus plug connections and these appear sound. Also have turned the set on and tapped all the components on the PC boards while watching a test pattern on the screen for any change, to no effect. Any other suggestions? This is a CRT wide screen 32" TV.

    Thank you all for the suggestions, but I believe toddg may have hit the nail on the head as the color problem is getting worse not just on the Red. Will contact EMPR Australia on Monday and get it sorted. Thank you toddg!

Hi,

If I may add...

Have you tried looking over the CRT driver board? that would be the squarish PCB right at the very end of the CRT. In some models, there would be 3 heatsinked transistors responsible for each color or in some versions a single power pack IC. Often one of the transistor gets a cold solder or simply needs replacement.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,
    Below would generally how it would look like connected to the rear of the CRT

    it would look something like this if it uses an IC power pack

    and something like this if it uses individual transistors.

    Forgot to mention that the board is often encased in a shielding of some sort that has to be removed to gain access to the foil/solder side of the board. There would also be numerous grounding straps.

    I am of course assuming that you are familiar with working on high voltage circuitry (G2/Screen) and FBT/EHT HV and safe practices/procedures.

Listen, this is a CRT television and in Australia it is getting some negative reviews. The RGB cone is what is going bad. If you contact EMPR in Australia, they can diagnose and repair the unit relatively inexpensively for you.

  • Anonymous Sep 25, 2008

    If you are located elsewhere, please tell me where and I will give you the contact information for that country and location. This is not something you can fix your self as is not as simple as an IC or a bad solder. You will damage them unit unreparably for a $25.00 part.

This symptoms shows dry joints or bad solder joints in color processing area.
If you know good solder work, you can do it yourself. Just look for lose connections / solder joints at main board and sub boards OR call TV Tech person to fix it.

Colour on the tv is too green and red model 26av502U. Less then three years old. Reset to factory default settings per manual instructions and it didn't work

If you are using component cables change them out. It sounds like they're faulty. Try another device like a dvd player on a different input with different cables to see if the picture is still too red or too green. If so then the tv needs servicing. If not you can rule out the television.

I have bought a new philips colour tv just 3 months ago.after watching tv for sometime whenever i power off the tv i can see some colour spot red,green....on the centre of the screen.even after removing...

This problem is known as image retention and is a problem with the PDP. Turn on the set when you see these spots and see if they appear on the image too. If they persist, then its time to use your warranty to get a replacement.

Brand new Hannspree 28" tv when you switch it on screen just changes colour white to red all colours and nothing else

Get rid of this model!!!! The Hannspree and Toshiba models used a TFT LCD screen from a chinese manufacturer that has put out faulty components for the last 3 years. The Problem is in the way the Active Matrix Screen was manufactured. I would recommend you return this item immediately to the place where you purchased it and pick a different brand; also stay away from Westinghouse!

ShubhangiWe try to connect CD player with Samsung LCD TV. CD Player is having Three Component Yellow, Red,White. It dont have Blue and green components.What to do ???

Hi, Component input connectors use the colour convention
Green = Y (luminance signal)
Red = Pr or Cr (Red colour difference signal)
Blue = Pb or Cb (Blue colour diffrence signal)

Composite input connectors use the colour convention
Yellow = CVBS (composite video, blanking, sync)
Red = Audio Right
White = Audio Left

for compatibility both units will need to have matching colours. note the component inputs do not have audio and as such will also have a set of red & white connectors for use with the audio signals too ( rule of thumb Component = 5 connectors, composite=3 connectors)

Toshiba Satellite L35 screen color turned to pink.

If you have a LCD-screen, not an old-style CRT-screen, it is the data-cable, and its connections, that are not transmitting one of the 3 "primary" colours, e.g., mix red & blue & green to get white,
but mix only two of those colours, and you could get pink,
because the mixing is an "additive" process.

If you mix NONE of the 3 primary colours, you should get BLACK.
If you see GREEN, you're seeing ONE of the primary colours.

Too much red in picture unable to get it out

The most common cause is the emission of the CRT electron guns are decreasing. They are going out of range and of proper balance in relation to each other for the AKG (Automatic Cathode [K] Gain) circuits in the CRT drive circuits to compensate for proper colour balance and colour tracking.

A less frequent cause are components going defective in the CRT bias and drive circuits.

I would be considering a new TV set with this type of fault condition. The cost of servicing this would be expensive.

Wii gone black and white, no colour

I bought a wii a few days ago and like everybody else mine too was in black and white with a grainy picture. I have a Panasonic lcd flat screen and thought I had connected it corrected, I got somebody out to have a look at it and found out there are some connections on the side of the TV which I hadn't even noticed before, once I put the red white and yellow leads in these and set the TV to AV3 everything is in perfect colour. Hope this works for some of you.
