Re: Drum and Toner al-1631
If you add the toner, there is a chip on the back of the toner cartridge that has to be relplaced.
With the drum, you take off the front green cover. There is a set of gears in there. One of them has a flag like tab sticking out of a segmented gear. You have to get the gears and flag set so that the the flag is up and to the right. It will then make one swipe pass the drum replacement switch and reset the counter.

the problem in your machine is on the drum unit there is a arching on the mc unit.located in the upper portion of the drum unit.if you have an old drum unit try to install it again just for testing.and check if ther is a dumping toner again.
the "screen" is actually called a grid, it is supposed to be on a unnit called the "primary" which sits on top of the drum (long silver unit) it may have a screw holding it. It must have been serviced or someone touched it, does not come off by-itself, anyway, it distributes the charge of the primary to the drum.
So look for a unit that sits directly on top of the drum unit and is the same lenght as the drum
Your unit definetly needs a new drum. The usual yield for this consumable is upt ot 15,000 pages, so at the stated rate, the unit yielded more than average. AL-1000 series share the same toner and drum, so finding remanufactured (or recycled) drum units should be no problem. In Puerto Rico, they are sold for about $79.00.
Make absolutely sure you are using new OEM Sharp supplies for this machine. I sell OEM and generic, and I always have trouble with generics leaking in Sharp copiers. Also if the drum unit has toner backed up in the waste channel, it will leak out.
