Question about Philips Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I just bought the 52 inch philips lcd tv model number 52pfl3603d. I'm trying to hook it up to my philips surround sound model hts3544 so I can hear the tv thru the surround sound. Watching a dvd is no problem but no audio goes thru from the tv to the s.s. unit. There is no audio out of the tv. I have dish network and tried running audio out of the satellite receiver to the s.s. unit but nothing. Any suggestion to get the satellite or whatever I'm watching on tv to run thru on the tv mode of the surround sound system? Thanks.

Is the volume on the dish network device turned all of the way dowm?

Is the dish network connected to its pwn input on the SS system and did you turn the SS system to that input ?

Are you using the analog input (red and white) cables to the input from the TV to the SS System?, not from the SS box? This is not the correct setup?

Have no sound on my surround sound sony

Could be a number of things try each and test!

  1. Make sure the MUTE function has not been activated.
  2. Try turning up the volume level.
  3. Check that there are no headphones connected.
  4. Try setting the Audio/Video (A/V) receiver to a different Surround Sound mode. IMPORTANT: Verify that the source you are playing is encoded with Surround Sound audio. If not, the audio will be very difficult to hear using a Surround Sound setting. Set Surround Sound to OFF when playing a source that is not encoded with a Surround Sound signal.
  5. Check each speaker to make sure they are properly connected to the A/V receiver.
  6. Perform a Test Tone function to verify if the speakers are working correctly.
  7. Verify all external audio sources are securely connected to the appropriate inputs on the A/V receiver. NOTE: If the audio is being sent from a television to the A/V receiver, then it may be necessary to disable the internal speakers of the TV or set the audio output of the TV to FIXED or VARIABLE. If the audio output of the TV is set to VARIABLE, then you will need to increase the volume level of the TV.
  8. Make sure the correct audio input is selected on the A/V receiver.
  9. Confirm what type of HDMI devices are connected to the A/V receiver and then check the following:

    1. Test each one of the HDMI inputs on the A/V receiver to confirm that all of the inputs for the A/V receiver are working.
    2. Try a couple of different HDMI cables to verify there is not a bad set of cables.
    3. Unplug the video source from the A/V receiver and connect the source directly to the television. If there is still a problem with the audio, continue to the next step. If connecting the source to the TV corrects the sound issue, service will be needed on the A/V receiver.
  10. Verify the DEMO (demonstration) mode is not active.
  11. Change the ATT (attenuate) setting. NOTE: The procedure to change the ATT feature varies by model.
  12. Reset the A/V receiver back to factory specifications.

Just purchased a 52 inch flat plasma tv. Problem with the volume. When volume is fully extended, the volume is still low and definitely unsatisfactory. Would like to know if there is an adjustment that I...

The sound on the plasmas is not very high compare to other TVs like the rear projection and the CRTs types.
If you add an amplifier or surround sound to get better audio, if you notice in the stores most of these TV are hook up to suround systems.

Can't get sound out of Boston soundbar when hooked up to 46" LCD Philips? Soundbar works fine when hooked directly to iPod.

You may have to go into the settings on the tv and turn off the internal speakers in order to get audio out of the jacks on back.

I am having 21 inch onida black 200 tv .I have recently bought philips home theatre. please let me know how to turn off internal speakers of onida tv and how to turn on external speakers to send audio...

By the looks of it, the only output you can use from the tv will be using the 2.5mm jack plug headphone socket, get a cable to convert this into twin phone (red/white) for stereo sound to your amplifier. (they are very cheap £2 or so) The Home theatre system should be able to give you a psuedo surround but you wont get full surround.

We just purchased a HTS from Philips and there were no instructions on how to hook it up. We can get the surround sound for DVDs & CDS but not from our TV. How can we find how ro hook it up?

If you copy the model number of the Philips receiver and do a Google search you will probably find a pdf file online or on the Philips web page. That will be your best start. If that comes up negative I would then contact Philips directly for a manual. They will usually provide one to you at no charge.

I am trying to hook up my home theater system

marvidson,
With the NAD model that you have and its lack of component or HMDI switching, the only way is to connect your system, sort of, backwards.

The only way to do it is to connect your digital cable box and blueray player directly to the tv, then the audio output from the tv to one of the video inputs on the NAD. The NAD has digital coaxial and toslink inputs so if your tv has one of them as an output, that would give you the best sound to the NAD. If your tv does not have either of those outputs, then you will be limited to the composite outputs (red and white) but that will still give you good sound.

Also, depending on the digital output to input configuration, you could possible find a converter online.

I just bought a Blue Ray player but my surround sound has a dvd player built in and only one input which I have my new Sharp TV plugged into. How can I hook up my Blue Ray . I have the HDMI cables

Depending on if your surround system has a hdmi input or not. if it does you can connect the blu-ray player to it. If it doesn't have an hdmi input you will have to run the hdmi cable from the blu-ray to the tv then run a set of rca cables (red and white plugs) from the tv audio out to the surround systems' audio input jacks to get sound through the surround system. Most surround systems don't have an auxiliary input for another video device.

Yamaha reciever rx-v363

Thats because if you look in the owner's manual, it declares the fact that it will only broadcast sound from hdmi to monitor not speakers. For sound out of speakers need to connect additional audio cable.
