It could be a bad XP disk or the cd-rom may be dirty or bad. Borrow an XP cd from Friend and see if it boots. If it does not boot it is the drive.

My HP d530 is infested with viruses and will not start up in safe mode. So I am trying to Perform a System recovery, but I have no disk.

If you do not have a recovery disk ..the fastest way and safer and much reliable is to reinstall it clean from a Boot-able disk with the operation system ...
After installing the clean operation system ..all you need is to get the drivers for the devices..(sound; video ;Lan card;//etc) from the HP support site ..and reinstall them for to be working proper..
During the installation you will have to format the Cpartition in order to get rid of all the viruses for sure ..
Here you will find an image file with a boot-able windows XP..that you will have to download using Utorrent or any torrent client software ..and after that burn it on a blank CD using NERO burner software ..
The actual burning is made just by double clicking the file with a blank cd inside..and the Nero program being installed on the computer ..
Here are the links in order for ..windows...utorrent ..and Nero ..
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5388204/Windows_Xp_Genuine
http://www.utorrent.com/
http://www.mediafire.com/file/yznzmdonjgm/Nero%207.rar
just install utorrent first ..than download Nero and install it ..(be sure you insert the product key in the folder) ..and than download the windows xp image file from that link ..
when all that are done and nero installed..insert a blank disk ..and double click on the image file ..it will bur a boot-able windows xp ..
with this cd you will be able to boot from cd and reinstall the operation system ..
after that here you will find the drivers you need for your computer ..

most likely the ram memory is bad, or the windows file system is corrupted. test the ram with memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/) and/or replace it. if the ram is good, all you can do is backup the files and reinstall windows. to reinstall windows, use your disks, or press one of the following keys when the computer boots up:
sony = F10
hp = F11

Windows xp home edition reinstall

If you use his disk, that will be better, because if it is original HP disk, it should install all original drivers at all, however this may delete all files on the computer depending on the type of installation you do.

Installing an older version of XP home does not make a big difference , as windows will update the system using automatic updates. What must be done, is ensuring that all proper drivers are installed.

Check device manager, in control panel/system, and see if all devices are installed with proper drivers.

Brand new hp pavilion dv2839tx entered pass word & it`s not reconised,try to reset password,informed to use floppy disc or usb flash drive & try again,i have done this with blank floppy disc,still...

Let me help you with that concern!

First, the computer asks you for a Password Reset Disk right? And then you inserted a BLANK Floppy Disk since you dont have a Flash Drive. But here is the thing, the computer is asking you a "Password Reset Disk" and in order for you to do that is, after you created a password into your account at your computer, the computer suggests to create a reset disk by inserting a floppy drive or a flash drive. And what the computer is doing is copying the password data into the floppy drive or to a flash drive. So inserting a blank floppy drive will do nothing on recovering your password. You need a password reset disk, but then again i think you did created a reset disk, so what you can do is to Reinstall the Operating System. I know your files are important but that is the only last resource that we can do. My suggestion is just back up all your files by inserting you hard drive into another laptop or you can just call drivesavers. You may visit their website at www.drivesavers.com and this is only a tip if still want to backup your files. But the resolution is still reinstalling the operating system.

Thanks!
I know it will work. Be Positive!
Your good rating will be very much appreciated.

Good luck and thank you!

I have a HP Pavilion a1419h desktop computer that I bought new. When it died one of my wifes coworkers repaired it with no sound working or HP Updates listed in the system and windows updates will not...

When you bought it new it's important to use the restore disks that should've come with it. Also if you were lucky you'll have the operating system disk. If you restore it will put everything in the PC as it was when you bought it losing any new settings for sound cards you may have installed. If you have the operating system disk, ex: xp - home/pro or other, I think the easiest and most reliable would be to reformat your entire drive and reinstall. You can burn any info you want to keep to a cd/dvd or copy to an external device. I'm pretty sure if you have restore disks the system files for this software is stored on D: partition and reformatting entirely will erase this. Sometimes it's impossible to just reinstall on C: where windows sys. files are held because of the D: partition.
Think of your options & if your still confused post back with the option you want to go with & I'll try to help you through it.

System Restore

Yes you can use a disk which is used for reformatting the system just like you can reinstall the windows in your system.
It will automatically reinstall the all booting files in your system and also remove your old operating problems.

But after installing the windows in the system you you have also need to install all the Motherboard Drivers in the system. If you have a Motherboard Drivers C.D. with you...fine...But if not have a Motherboard C.D. don't afraid at all.....you can find all the available Motherboard Drivers from the Website of HP.
