Question about Compaq Presario R3000 Notebook

Start up problem

Hi, I have recently been having problems with my pc laptop. I recently downloaded some windows xp series 2 to update my computer which is about 5yrs. old. The operating system is windows xp series 1. While configuring windows xp series 2 I noticed that the configurations took a very long time. Once the operating sytem installation was complete I restarted my computer. Unfortunately my start menu had dissapeared. I can access certain programs from the desktop but I cannot run them. The system says not responding. I have tried to go to system restor. An error box appears on my desktop telling me that a program terminated uncorrectly.

It appears that Service Pack 2 did not completely install. Try to boot into safe mode (F8 at startup). If you can, go to control panel, then add/remove programs. Scroll all the way down, select Windows XP Service Pack 2 and click "remove".

After it's removed, you will need to reboot, but the system should come up normally after that.

Hope this helps - please remember to rate :)

I have a acer laptop 5738z i have a problem that sometime my laptop start and freeze on blinking of underscore in very beginning to start the laptop plz help me out its urgent

I need a bit more info.
Is this a Linux or Windows machine and what version?
Have you recently updated the computer BIOS or system drivers? I recommend the latest manufacturer BIOS patch on acer.com.
New to this? Have a tech friend 'flash' the BIOS or go to a shop. Download all the BIOS stuff for them, save them some work and it should be inexpensive.
Have you recently changed Windows in any way?
Has the computer been dropped?
Did you install XP on a Linux computer? This has known issues.

Umm... can't boot to windows at all so the program that was provided wont work, can't reinstall windows automatic disk eject on startup!

Hi,

Restart your computer. Immediately after the screen goes blank for the first time, press the F8 key repeatedly. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If the menu does not appear, restart your computer and try again. Use the cursor keys on your keyboard (your mouse will not work) to select Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER. Windows XP attempts to start.

If you recently installed new hardware, shut down your computer and disconnect the hardware. Then, restart Windows XP and troubleshoot your hardware to get it working properly.

Restart your computer and press F8 again. This time, choose Safe Mode and press ENTER. Windows XP attempts to start in Safe Mode, which does not automatically start programs and hardware, and displays very primitive graphics. If Windows XP starts successfully in Safe Mode, you can remove any programs or updates you have recently installed. Then, restart your computer normally.

Good luck!
And Thanks.

HI,

This issue might occur if a system thread generates an exception that the error handler does not catch. This exception can be caused by any of the following:
  • If this issue occurs after the first restart during Windows Setup or after Setup is complete, the computer might not have sufficient hard disk space to run Windows XP.
  • The computer BIOS might be incompatible with Windows XP, or it might have to be updated.
  • The video adapter drivers might be incompatible with Windows XP.
  • A device driver or a system service might be damaged.
  • If the issue is associated with the Win32k.sys file, it might be caused by a third-party remote control program.
Method 1: Make sure that you have sufficient hard disk space loadTOCNode(3, 'resolution'); First, make sure that you have sufficient hard disk space. The Stop error can be caused by insufficient hard disk space.

If you can use safe mode or the Recovery Console to start the computer, delete any unnecessary temporary files, Internet cache files, program backup files, and files that contain saved file fragments from disk scans (.chk files). You can also install Windows XP on another hard disk that has more free space.
If you cannot start the computer, go to the next method to update the computer BIOS.
If freeing space on your hard disk did not resolve the problem, the BIOS might have to be updated. Use the hardware and software vendor or computer manufacturer to obtain the most recent BIOS update.
Or you can go to HERE. to get more info on troubleshooting the problem.

Good Luck
