64-Bit??? Ok, when I did the research and looked up the Motherboard and Processor, it states that it's 64-Bit. Yet, it's running 32-Bit (because of the Windows 7 Analyzer). Do I need to set something in the Bios to have it run 64-Bit? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Hello Roy,

Did you install Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit?

You can check by right clicking on "computer" then click on properties.

Then check System Type.

If it says 32 bit and you want to have 64 bit, you should INSTALL windows 7 64 bit on your system.

I hope this helped you.

Actually, when I first built the system, I put Windows XP 32-bit, not knowing they had a 64-bit version out there. I didn't even realize that I built a 64-bit system. However, when I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it had a tab for 64-Bit and was green across the board except a driver (or two). Would that mean that Windows 7 recognizes that my system is 64-Bit? This would be so cool as all this time, I've been running an OS that only recognized HALF of my total RAM. Just in case, if anyone is interested, I'm running the MSI P43 NEO3 (MS-7514) motherboard, loaded with the Intel Duo Core2 3.2 Ghz (E6750), and 4 x 2Gb Patriot SDRAM DDR2 6400 EL (PC2-8500, 533Mhz running at 1066). May be I'm reading the information wrong, I'd rather not think that and believe that my research came up that I'm just running the wrong OS. Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated.

Your system is pretty fast enough to handle Win7 64 bit.. That is if you want to. But there are some software that does not support 64 bit OS. So do some research first before deciding if you want to use 64 bit.

Are you still running XP or Win7 32bit now?

    Goodluck.

I currently have Win XP 32-Bit installed. I picked up a 500Gb Seagate HD that I'll be installing my Win 7 64-Bit fresh on. Once it gets here, I'll be doing the migrating thing-a-mabob. lol That part is not fun, but having a new OS that utilizes my 8Gb of RAM makes me much more happier. I looked through my BIOS and couldn't see where I could implement Memory Remapping (suggested by Win 7 64-Bit for RAM over 4 Gb).

How much i upgrade processor

http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/index.html
You will need to type motherboard name ID and the cpu ID
Significance
Upgrading to more modern operating systems depends on the type of processor in the computer.
One of the main differences between the two systems is that a 32-bit operation requires either a 32-bit or 64-bit processor, while a 64-bit version must have at least a 64-bit processor.

Identification
The operating system will register different on each computer that is running the platform. When a user clicks on the Start button, they can go to the Control Panel, followed by the System and Maintenance tab and click on System.
This will show whether the computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system

Can't detect XP discs in win 64 bit

Hello Joe, 64-bit processing is faster than 32-bit processing because the CPU is handling more bits at once, However, a 64-bit OS requires more resource than a 32-bit OS, A 64-bit OS requires that device drivers operating in kernel mode be a 64-bit drivers, These drivers must be available from the device manufacturer. An application is compiled to process 64-bit or 32-bits. A 64-bit OS can run either 64-bit applications or 32-bit applications, but 64-bit applications are faster also 64-bit applications cannot run on a 32-bit OS.
A 32-bit OS can only address up to 4 GB of memory, More than that might be on the motherboard, but the OS cannot use it, because it does not have enough memory addresses to assign to the physical memory. A 64-bit OS theoretically can address up to 1 terabyte of memory although in practice, most motherboards can only hold from 12 to 16 GB of memory.( A terabyte is roughly 1000 GB or 1 trillion bytes). If you open many applications at the same time and have high computing needs and enough hard drive space and memory, you can benefit from 64-bit computing. To get most out of it, the processor, motherboard, operating system, drivers and applications must all be 64-bit, and you should have installed the maximum amount of memory the motherboard supports.

Can I use a SL8MA 2.8 dual core 4mb / 800 fsb processor in a dell precision 670?

I know this is late but it is the CORRECT answer.

Dell used different motherboards in the Precision 670 and they are listed as follows:
X0392XC837MG022U7565
I am running the XC837 motherboard and it WILL support the SL8MA processors. I have been told that the XC837 is the ONLY motherboard what will support the Dual Core Paxville Processors. If you are trying to use them in a 470 you will need XC838 Motherboard.
