Enter the menu system and go to "Setup". There is an option for "All reset". That must be set to "Off" for the camera to retain its settings.

I have an Olympus 850sw and each time I turn it on it asks to enter the date and time. Why is that?

Most of the cameras with a date time clock have a secondary internal power source like a small watch type battery some point and shoot cameras use a storage cell which takes power from the main battery. This means when the main battery looses power the camera clock will hold a setting for about 1 day or 24 hours. To keep the camera clock set you need to keep a charge in the main battery. Here is a screen shot from the manual explaining this function.

Camera keeps loosing the time and date settings. When turning the camera on the lens does not open, then a screen asking to set the date and time settings appears - once date reset the camera works...

have you check the settings for time and date have you saved it? You can also try to remove the cam battry for 2 mins. then put it back in then turn on the camera and then after few secs. turn it off, then see if the issue persist.

When I change batteries I loose date/time etc.

There isn't another battery built into it. From what I undersatnd once you have placed batteries into the camera or connected the AC adaptor into the camera for 2 hours the camera will retain the date/time settings for 6 hours.

If they haven't been in the camera for two hours and you remove them the camera will loose the settings. If they have been in the camera for over two hours the camera will keep the settings for 6 hours. This leads me to think that a capacitor on the board inside the camera charges up for two hours and then slowly discharges over 6. Hope this helps.

My Z812 keeps telling me I need to reset the date/time every time I turn it on, even if I have just done it. Also drawing batteries very quickly (lithium, camera type)

It may only happen enter date and time if you remove the battery in the camera., If your not removing the batteru out of the camera you should not recieved that message, unless battery is out of charge or no power.

You should use this battery Kodak Li-Ion rechargeable battery KLIC-8000. This is a special battery for Z812 camera,

Note: You must also need to purchase a charger for this type of battery.
I guarantee you it will provide stable longer power for on your camera

Date/time function

Actually, it was easy. My fault. I didn't realize I could keep scrolling through my "set-up" option - from "menu" to the date/time icon. Once I found that, I just had to work my way through it. The only thing is, it's set up as a 24 hour clock, and I would prefer it as a 12 hour AM/PM. Haven't figured out how to change that yet, but it's not serious. At least the date will be correct now.

Olympus battery charger flashes red when battery is inserted.

@gminvite1
"Another way I found was when this happens, to push the battery to the point the light will turn on, when it starts flashing slide it off then back on. Do this a few times so it charges a little, then you should be fine to leave it on."

I tried to do this with my LI-10C Olympus charger and it worked..The blinking red light turns to solid red..Thanks for the info...Now I won't be bothering to buy a new batt.or have my charger checked..

Camera Draining Battery

Lachuaeyes,
I have a different model of Olympus and I read that you did not always have this problem and you already have replaced the battery so an old battery is not likely the issue. I suspect you might have something that is draining that was not set in the past. I keep my batteries longer by not using flash most of the time. Is there someone new using the camera that perhaps leaves it on longer than you do after finishing, perhaps uses flash longer? Is there a setting for auto shutdown that has been changed to not turn off as fast as it used to? If none of these I wonder if the flash is requiring more energy than in the past.
Could you tell me if the battery is draining even if you don't use it or is it only if you are using it does it drain faster.

Another possibility is that the charger is not charging so well as it used to but I suspect you leave it in long enough and more.

If you have the ability to check the output voltage of the charger with a multimeter you would be sure it is really putting out enough volts to charge fully.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Camera does not turn off

Pretty common. This might be a serious problem requiring the power board (and maybe the main circuit board) to be replaced. What's the status of your warranty? If valid, send it for repair. If expired get an estimate from olympus or a local shop that can handle it. It was also common with the 990 when it came out. There were rumours then that it could be fixed by a firmware upgrade, you could try and see if there are any available from the Olympus site. also try leaving it without batteries for 24 hrs. If there is an internal battery you'll need to either find it and remove it, or leave it without batteries for more than 48 hrs. but contacting olympus might be usefull because sometimes the internal battery can keep charge for more than a month. you can tell by checking to see if it keeps the date/time. if it does then it hasn't been reset. This could also be a case of the lens been obstructed. Sometimes a camera can go flipping from that. Good luck
