No boot device available means that there is no Operating System available. F12 is the key that will get you into the Dell BIOS, not F2. Once there change your Boot Order to your HDD first. Good luck!!

Formatted HDD wont install windows 7 ULT disc

It may be that your BIOS is not setup to boot from CD before HDD. To get to the BIOS, look for the message for getting into the BIOS on the first screen after rebooting. There are many versions of the BIOS depending on the computer, but usually its F1, esc, del, F2, F3. It should say which to push on the first screen after rebooting. Look in the BIOS fot boot order, then put CD drive as the first boot order. Then save by either hitting F10, or pressing esc. This will make it so it looks for a boot.ini on the CD before firing up the HDD. Some CDs/DVD's will boot on their own, but usually it will say 'Press any key to boot from CD'. Press that and go from there. I would choose the option to format the drive before it installs, since the way you did it might not of erased it all the way. (Usually a clean formatted HDD will say 'Missing Operating System', not boomgr missing). Try that first then let me know if this worked for you. Also, if you are using an windows 7 upgrade disk, it will not work. Has to be the complete operating system disk for a clean install.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS defaults? In doing so, it will force IDE re-detection and often resolve vague boot issues.

Laptop not used for some years. could enter bios OK to reset Replaced U/S CMOS battery with no problem. Restarted............ Message press F1 ibm bios setup press F11 to invoke IBM product recovery...

I received an IBM laptop with same issue a few months back. The error message due to the drained out CMOS RTC (coin-cell battery), which retains and other BIOS settings.
The system is OK and all you have to do is to get the CMOS/RTC battery replaced by the a professional.
Good Luck!

I recently replaced the motherboard, video card and hard drive in my dell d800. The hard drive is new, but when I try to boot-up the computer gives an error message that there is no hard drive detected....

If it says there is no hard drive detected, then the BIOS is looking for one.
When you place your system disk in the drive to load on a fresh system, if you are using Windows, it will automatically detect the pressence of a hard drive, initialize it and format it. If it doesn't, put the hard drive in a USB caddy and initialize it from another pc, then place it back in the notebook.
Hope that helps.

My Laptop is Dell Latitude D600 (A16) Everytime I tried to power up, Splash screen appears with blue bar and when going into next screen this message appears " No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry...

Check your BIOS, by pressing F2 and see if the hard drive is recognized. It should indicate the MFR next to the hard drive listing. If it's not there, then you might have a bad hard drive. If it is there, try re-installing the operating system with the set-up disk. You can also go to the Dell website, enter you service tag number, and get technical support for your particular laptop. It might have a recovery partition in the hard drive to recover to factory settings.

From the Bios, load all the default settings and then check the bios SATA port settings. If it is set to AHCI, change it to IDE to boot from Hard Drive. This should solve the problem

NO BOOT DEVICE AVAILABLE

If you hit F12 at start up it will go to the boot menu. In this menu it should list the hard drive and the CD drive, if it doesn't, then this could be a simple bios glitch, in which you will need to make a floppy with the bios download from Dell's support site in order to flash the bios, using a floppy drive. It's not likely that both the hard drive and CD drive went out at the same time, which is usually what the "no bootable device" means, unless this is a machine that you just purchased and don't know anything about. I've gotten a few off Ebay that they slid bad drives into, just to make the sale. Try the bios flash and get back to me if it doesn't work.
