Question about Frigidaire Refrigerators

1 Answer

I am curious on the control knob if you turn it to 6 if that is warmer or colder. My knob goes from 1 to 6. I have turned the knob to 4 1/2 and it seems like it isn't getting any colder.

Higher settings always equal 'colder.' I've never seen a refrigerator/freezer that was in good condition and didn't perform well with the control set to only half of the scale available.
I don't know how old your unit is, or if it has ever been moved, but you may have lost coolant over time or the fan that forces air through the condenser coils under the cabinet may not be running.
You should feel some warm air coming through the front grill while the compressor is running. If you don't, then the coils are unable to dispose of the heat collected from inside the cabinet. These coils do gather a ton of dust over time that reduces their efficiency so you might want to check behind that grill to see how much has accumulated there and carefully remove as much as you can without disturbing the coils too much since they are kind of fragile.
Removing the grill for access is always kind of a challenge but most are held in place by spring clips.

What is the function of the "adjustment shaft" located at the center of the bottom of the control panel? It may have had a knob at one time..the fridge came with this house purchase.

Refrigerators usually have an adjustable thermostat in the refrigerator section, sometimes has numbers 1 thru 10 in a circle to indicate warmer or colder. Knob slips over a metal shift. Meat would prefer colder but that might be too cold for lettuce and ruin it.

Hello R, thank you for your question! Generally speaking it is recommended that the temperature knob is set in the middle for both the refrigerator and freezer compartment for top mount refrigerators. The temperature can be adjusted by moving the knob in small increments, allowing the temperature to stabilize. If you desire a colder temperature, then turn the knob towards COLDER, or for warmer temperature, turn the knob towards COLD. Turning the refrigerator control will change temperatures in both compartments. For example, if the refrigerator control is turned to a colder setting, the freezer control may have to be adjusted to a warmer setting. Turning the freezer control will only change the freezer temperature. Hope this proves to be helpful!

My refigerator is not keeping things cool. It was working ok until, the other day, I turned down the termostat by 1 from 5 to 4, and there was an audible click. Sounded like a fuse blew or something, the...

Sounds like you just happened to be near the defrost cycle timer as it was ready
to start the cycle and the movement was just enough to start it. You should actually
be turning the cold to a higher number (from 5 to 6 instead) and make sure that
if you have an adjustment knob in the freezer that it is set to the middle and not
to "colder" This knob controls the vent which allows cold air into the fresh food
compartment below. If it is set all the way to "colder" it will almost completely
cut off cold air flow to the lower compartment. Also if you have a thermometer
use it to set the temperature between 36 degrees and 39 degrees in the fresh
food compartment, it should stay in the fridge for 24 hours for an accurate reading.
hope this helps.

Freezer works fine but no cold in refrigerator

Because Your model has an adaptive defrost board Part number Click Here=> 241508001 it is the most likely reason for the defrost or not cooling problem. Frost or snow will be collecting on the freezer walls. Click Here=> Frigidaire Controls FRS6LF7JW3 number 23 is the adaptive defrost and 115 is the auto damper and I need you to make sure it is opening and closing properly. This refrigerator is a little complex because the thermostat, auto dampre and Adaptive defrost are all wired together so don't give up until we locate the one of the three causing the problem. setting warmer freezer should open damper and cause colder fresh food. Stick with me on this. If need you may contact me here on Fixya or my Forum=> Appliance 911 My contact information is located above the Fixya Ad on my blog here=> Sea Breeze Appliance Parts and Technical Services,
Thanks, Sea Breeze

Click here=> Wiring Diagram note wire 6 goes to auto damper so if ADC board or a thermostat defevtive that will be the cause.

I have a HSBO3 compact refrigerator and all my food is freezing. Which way is colder on the settings?

Hi, normally the lower the number, the colder the temp. But, if its not numbered, I would suggest to listen to it when it is on first. Then slowly turn the stat knob all the way left and see if the unit comes to a halt. If it continues to run, turn it slowly to the right. Which ever direction shuts it off will be the warmer direction to turn the temp up or down.Let me know how it goes as you may have a faulty stat control also. Keep me posted and good luck,

Frig is turned down to low and everything is still freezing. Ice maker not making ice.

icemaker not working because to cold in freezer;water transfer tube frozen and will need to be deiced, but first must solve refrig. to cold, making freezer to cold, thermostat problem which is common it is a presure filled and in time can loose presure and will run colder, some have adjustment scew with arrows warmer or colder adust warmer and only turn a 1/4 turn or less until you get in middle of dail range. or replace thermostat. refrig. temp. should be 38 to 40 degrees frenhiet. freezer no colder then 0.

Freezer section is working but refridge not very cold.

check the vent that lets air from the freezer goes to the refrigerator. A control knob operates the amount of opening through the vent with a flap. makes the flap is not stuck, and responds to the knob, this is all mechanically link.

Ref. Whirlpool model ED25DQ/ water in meat drawer

You seem to have conflicting information here.
If you turn the therostat DOWN it is setting it to defrost that will not help the food in the door to get cold it gets it warmer. The water is possibly from the fridge being in defrost mode and the tube that usually direcfts it to a tray beneath the fridge to waste tray that evaporates the water from the heater coil has somehow been directed back into the crisper draw.

tfry turning the fridge to colder not warmer. Hope i interpreted this correctly, language is a wonderful tool when facial expression and visuals are available otherwise its a handicap
