Question about Cyberhome DVR 1600 DVD Recorder

1 Answer

Unknown Disc Hi. I am another very frustrated Cyerhome DVR 1600 owner. I purchased this unit from Target and soon after sent this unit back to Cyberhome for warranty repair back in 2006. After receiving it back, I went overseas to Iraq and never had a chance to use it. Upon my return, I hook it up and it shows the same error, "unknown disc". I recently discovered that Cyberhome has gone out business and disappeared entirely. I have gone online to try to get a repair option before I totally torch this DVR! Please help-I am open to any solution(s) that you may have. My email is esamuelusa@yahoo.com. Thank you for your time. Eric Samuel

No matter what kind of disc is put into my DVR 1600 Recorder, a "no disc" message is given

Ok, in my experience over the years, most often when this type of problem exists it is always the laser unit, and or the quadrant detector, essentially the "Laser Head Assembly", this has faulted. (Or the associated drive circuitry).
Replacement is your only option.

If you wish to have it repaired, please ask for a 'Quote" before proceeding with any repair work.

Cyberhome DVR 1600 DVD

What format are you recording in?If the recorder is set for DVD +R, and your playback machine won't read the disc, you may need to record on a DVD-R, or a DVD +-R. Or vice-versa. Some DVDRW discs will record on one machine and won't play on another. The media are incompatible. Another problem - if you are copying a copy-protected disc, it might not play back either. Are you sure you are finalizing the disc? This process takes 4-5 minutes and requires two or three responses sometime.

No disk

Hi. I have this problem with my unit. After a lot of research on the net it apperars that this is caused by problems with the laser pickup. The laser is either dead or is on its way out and doesn't have the strength it needs to read sensitive DVDs but is OK with Audio CDs.

A lot of CyberHome units have this problem due to the poor quality of the laser pickup units they use. I have been told that they have since gone bankrupt. If it is still under warranty then it you may be able to get it repaired but otherwise it may be cheaper to get new unit.

Hope this helps

No disc displayed

The disc won't spin until the unit recognizes that there is actually a disc there. Try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails, try playing a CD. If the CD plays, the optics are starting to fail as reading a DVD requires higher laser power.

Get a good dvd cleaner I notice that alot of people have this problem. The optics get dirty and it won't read the dvd anymore,
some reason not play no 2 zone dvds.

My is a Cyberhome is a DVR 1200 DVD player

Try unplugging the unit from its power supply. Wait a few moments and then plug it back in. I have the same unit and that is what I have had to do. I am afraid that we have purchased junk. This machine "works" some of the time. It usually functions well as a player but fails on numerous occasions as a recorder.
